Florals and Landscape Paintings by Christine
Christine has been painting a variety of subjects since first starting out with art in 1974; initially with oils, later on including pastels and then acrylic just a few years ago. She has been concentrating particularly on floral pictures and related themes since 1999. The work has moved through several stages of development; from small, realistic studies suited to local exhibition and buyers, to larger experimental paintings on canvas. These have often featured extreme close up study, pushing the flower's boundaries beyond the canvas edges and concentrating on the revealed shapes, recesses, curves and tiny structures found within. Popular approaches have also included a single flower portrayed on a large canvas, creating a kind of floral icon. Poppies and lilies have been particularly successful in this style. The slideshow below demonstrates a few examples (non-clickable);
Starting this year (2008) there is now more of a mix of paintings on display, of oils and acrylics on canvas, and pastels on paper. Styles vary from traditional, realistic and detailed to more simplified, contemporary. Subjects include close-up florals, garden scenes, still life and open landscape. Christine's work tends to be medium to smaller size (that is, 24 inches, 60cm or less) with a few occasional larger ones. Please note that the works are ALL originals; there are no prints of any kind on offer.
Current pictures can be seen at the main paintings section.
Landscape pictures on this website are almost always representational; with soft pastels being used regularly, and oils for smaller work. Current examples can be found now along with the florals on the same page. For viewers seeking more unusual and abstracted kinds of work, Christine is working on a second website where a quite different style will be used and experimental ideas will be placed.
