Welcome to RCS Marie! I know you'll get all your questions answered here, just ask away. Artist Trading Cards are
small cards, 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" if I remember correctly. I've only done one ATC swap, but RJ has done tons of
ATC cards, Katrina's hosted 2 ATC swaps, and others have done them. I'm sure they'll be able to tell you more
information. My suggestion on your album is to just start. Obviously you want to make sure anything that touches your
photos is acid free. If you have a scrapbook store in your area, you might check with them. Most scrapbook stores
teach beginner's classes. Otherwise, just start doing it. There's no right or wrong way to scrap, which is why I love
this craft. The only one I have to worry about pleasing is me. LOL -- Deb in AR - Desert Rat at heart!

I mainly make them for my own use but I have a friend who comes around with 3 one pound coins in her hand and asks me
to make something for her. She has lots of friends at a dancing club and likes to make sure the card she sends is not
like the ones the others send. I sometimes personalise the wording on the front by printing the greeting on to the card
with my printer. Or I do it inside in the verse. Shirley In message <49n93bFoqid8U1@individual.net>, Dizzy

I would like to add: I have loads of A4 paper and cards that I need to organise. I found some boxes on ebay and they
wanted 12 pounds postage on eight boxes that cost 1.99 each. I think that is too much for something that is light in
weight. After all I can send 20kgs for 11.65. Well that's ebay for you! Does anyone know where I could obtain some
boxes at a cheaper rate. Thanks Just done a google as I could do with something similar (Si's idea is fine but if I
want to take just one out somewhere there's no cover on it. Mind you plastic boxes are not particularly cheap

shelves and I wanted to sort them into order and label the ends of the boxes so I do not spend time lifting the whole
stacks of the shelves. I will look more closely at what you have found. Shirley -- Shirley Shone

Hey, Larissa. This is the time of year when kiddos with developmental issues (like ADHD, autism, pdd etc) go through a
really difficult behavior cycle. In addition to the shortening daylight hours ( and you have already mentioned you
have SAD so you know how you react to this), there are also frequent changes in barometric pressure and lots of
frontal activity. It is a very difficult time for kids, parents, teachers -- I think especially for kids because they
do not understand what is making them act out the way they do and they don't like feeling out of control either. Since
I know you sew (LOL) try making a weighted vest ( you can put large square pockets inside a vest (fronts and back), go
to the craft store and get modeling clay (the kind that comes in colors and is heavy; you'll want enough to equal 5%
of body weight), divide the clay into 4 portions to equal that 5% of weight and place the portions into freezer-weight
zip-lock baggies and put one baggie in each pocket. You might want a tiny bit of velcro to keep the pockets closed so
that he won't find it so easy to take the weights out and fiddle with them (read that throw them around the room). You
can also make a weighted blanket (lap quilt size or bigger) that he can use when he is at home. You can find
instructions for weighted blankets on the internet. The sensation of weight is quite calming for kids with ADHD. When
he is feeling agitated it sometimes help to give him a "heavy job" to do -- moving a heavy box from one side
of the room to the other can be quite soothing also. It is far better in these situations to be proactive than
reactive -- your anxiety when he is cycling will escalate the behaviors rather than de-escalate them, as I am sure you
already know. You are being the best mom that you can be; neurological issues are tough. I deal with them daily in
school but I know I get to send these kiddos home at the end of the day; their parents live with the behaviors. I
really have a great deal of respect for parents like you who are trying to find ways to make life better for their
children. Elizabeth in Spring, Texas

I get an email newsletter from Quilting Arts magazine- a magazine I dearly love! Here's a fun technique from the
newsletter: (I think this would work on our cotton fabrics as well???) Make shimmering fabrics with Misty Fuse™
Esterita Austin's Misty-white Fuse ™ and Misty-black Fuse ™, is a dreamy fusible webbing to work with-it handles well,
is sheer, doesn't add bulk to your fused piece, and bonds firmly once cooled. Here's a fun alternative to traditional
fusing: painting stretchy panné velvet with Misty Fuse and shimmering acrylics: Cover your table top with plastic
kitchen wrap or plastic sheeting. Choose 2-3 Lumiere® paints and pour a little into different containers, then dilute
each with water (2 parts paint to 1 part water). Take a piece of Misty Fuse and place it flat on top of the plastic
sheeting. Dip a foam brush into the acrylic paints and lightly paint the Misty Fuse. Let the paints run and swirl into
each other. Allow the Misty Fuse to dry overnight. Take your newly painted Misty Fuse and, following the manufacturer's
instructions, fuse to the right side of a piece of white or pastel-colored stretchy velvet. Make sure to place a sheet
of parchment paper or a non-stick craft sheet on top of the Misty Fuse so that you do not accidentally get any fusible
residue on your iron. Remove the protective sheet and: Voila! You have a new shimmering, colorful fabric that can be
used in your fiber or collage work. You can find Misty Fuse™ at our online store. I would use this only in wallhangings
and wearables- not a traditional quilt- for obvious reasons! You're welcome! Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.

[quote:4a4c335039] Mr. Schwartz owned a furniture store specializing in ornate antiques in the baroque style. He had
walking pneumonia last month and was in one of the baroque style chairs rubbing Vicks VapoRub on his aching chest when
he serendipitously discovered that the soothing ointment gave the furniture a wonderful, deep, rich shine. He
immediately told all the other furniture store owners since their furniture was more modern in style and they were not
competitors. Soon he got reports that the Vicks treatment not only failed to work on the modern furniture, but ruined
some of it. Mr. Schwartz is very unpopular now, and his only consolation is that he learned one important rule:

dont have! They are all mounted. I have heard of storing acrylic stamps in CD cases. I have been looking into getting
more acrylics stamps, and I like that storage idea! I have one alphabet set that is still in the clear bag it came in
and it is a pain in the rear to put it back in everytime. Linda Marilyn wrote: [quote:1518581683]Cathy...As yet I have

my recent stamp purchases are either SeeD's or clear polymer but I have loads (dare I say 100's) of UM rubber stamps
that I purchased from various sites on the internet. I do intend to UM them all one day :o) They are stuck to a clear
acrylic block for use. A mousemat under your cardstock solves the cushioning issue...although I have never felt the need

going to spend life unused & buried under all your other craft stuff!! Personally...if I no longer use mine I will
just gift them to somewhere that will benefit, i.e. local school, kids after-school club or a local charity group. Wood
mounted stamp storage is a huge issue and it depends on why people buy the stamps in the first place and what sort of
space they have to store them. Some people like to "collect" rather than just use them. They like to have them
on display! Me...I have mine in boxes by theme... to make them easier to find.... But I still find it a pain to
constantly search for the stamp I want....then have to put them all back in the box...grrrhh! Their wooden blocks will

stamps, which are stored in one lever-arch ring binder, stuck to page protectors. To do all mine I have used less than
half a bottle (which costs around $3.00 in the US) as you only need a scribble on each. You do not need to coat the
whole back! My clear polymer stamps are stored in slightly opaque A4 boxes, stored in a drawer unit, because they are
affected by exposure to the UVlight and the SeeD's are stored in a CD rack. HTH -- Take care, Marilyn (Scotland UK)

Try the leather making aisle at your craft store. They have precise tools. Also Fiskars is wonderful for their punches
(www.fiskars.com) and might have what you are looking for. Kate

4,000 pcs, 2.5" long. Just a dunk and stir, cold process if possible. What's out there in a permanent, cheap,

primer to make a mark? Touch inside so[/quote:954d597c74] it doesn't show unless you are looking? FOr that matter,
magic marker on a cut edge might work...or you could get a large stamp pad and just touch cut edge on pad to color.
Permanent color over the whole thing would probably require something that has a solvent effect on the pipe surface.
You might be able to color a "light" solvent with an oil-based dye for dipping....check out oil-based cake
coloring dyes at Michael's or other craft store. They are REALLY concentrated so if you can find a solvent that will
flash off and leave the dye sticking, it won't take much dye to get a color difference. I'd be a little wary though
because of the usual flash point issues as well as gettin wasted on fumes. Koz

[quote:0fe6f2a62c]I call it "spine filler" ... what is it really called? It is the strip added onto the posts
of a post-bound album to take up the extra thickness required because you've put several layers of
cardstock/photos/paper/embellishments in your layout. A package of sheet protectors will have a couple of strips
included (made of chipboard) but they are never enough. What do you use? Do you just get some more chipboard and cut out
a bunch of strips, or can you buy a big package of them? I don't know what to Google because I don't know what they're

major projects. Today I am working on the hall bathroom. I made a fabric shower over-curtain. The top valance is a

some of the flowers and apply them to the wall, but not a permanent application. Some years ago I saw a program where
they used liquid starch or liquid fabric softener or something similar to soak fabric and stick it to the walls. Later,
it could be peeled off without damaging the paint. Does anybody know of such a technique??? TIA, Leslie & The

post. I started lurking here about a year or so ago when both my wife and I decided we should finally take up the hobby
- we'd talked about it for a couple of years. I have since developed the theory that just about every person who does
much stained glass work is suffering from some sort of severe personality disorder, perhaps due to lead poisoning. I
signed us up for a class. My wife was very uncomfortable with the ranting and raving of the instructor, and never came
back after the first meeting. I lasted one more session, got our money refunded, and never went back. A couple of
months later, we get this flyer from the guy, saying he's going to do only contract work, is selling off his stock and
will never teach another class again. It seems he only had enough people to field a single class in 2005, 5 of the 6
people did not complete it. Evidently, if everyone was not gong to be grateful, well, he'd take his ball and go home.
I've read many complaints here about lack of new students, lack of sales, etc over the last year or so. Hey, if you
treat your customers like this guy did, how can you be surprised that no one wants to do business with you. I see the
same childish rants, raves, personal attacks and foul attitudes all over this newsgroup. It's a shame, because I still
think this could be an interesting hobby. But there are many, many other hobbies out there that are just as interesting
and rewarding, and they don't seem to come with the abuse heaped on people like the instructor we had, or the unmerited
verbal attacks that are commonplace in this newsgroup. I pull headers here once a week or so. If Carol(?) in Turkey
has a post in a thread, I tend to pull the bodies for those headers. There is frequently something I can learn from a
thread she participates in, because it takes longer, usually, for the hate-mongers here to ruin it.. Most of the rest I
will just spot check to see if there is any substance to it, or kill it if has descended into the typical 6-year-old
level of name calling that seems to be 90% of the posts. Why don't lurkers post? Probably because they see the
virulent, antisocial attitudes dumped on the group by two or three people on a very regular basis. My belief is that
many potential beginners are probably nearing retirement age, certainly have disposable income, but are totally turned
away by the vulgar abuse that appears to me to permeate the hobby, at least as it is represented in rec.crafts.glass.
Since I have never before in my life found such a pocket of mean-spirited people by nature, I must assume that many of
the frequent posters here are suffering from some form of lead poisoning that is causing these asocial attitudes and
behavior. I mean, what do you guys do, hold all the solder in your mouths all day long, week after week or something?
My thanks to the few courteous, helpful people who occasionally post here. Those few are the sole reason I still lurk
here, and have not completely given up on the hobby. But I will probably never consider spending any serious money on it
again - perhaps just a time-killer some rainy weekend. I also lurk over at rec.woodworking, where almost always even a
clueless newbie will get helpful responses and even friendly answers to honest, even pretty stupid newbie type
questions. RWW is the most helpful newsgroup I have followed. The help and advice I got there convinced me to pry open
my wallet a couple months back and spend a couple of grand for a new cabinet saw. In more than a year following this
group, I have not seen anything posted that begins to induce me to spend even a tenth that much, ever again, on the SG
hobby. Listen up you retailers and suppliers. Y'all are killing off the golden goose with all your infighting. You'd
have a lot more lurkers here, and potential customers too, if this wasn't a group dominated by a few pathetic people.
Ok, flame away. I've even dropped every twit filter I've had in this group to make sure I see every argument refuting
this post. I really want to hear the logic as to how ranting, raving, name-calling, insults and veiled threats brings
people into the hobby. Maybe you'll convince me that common courtesy and respect are a waste of time. I doubt it, but
fire away. Regards, Roy [/quote:773e682964] Whoa, Roy, had a fresh batch of coffee, did we? First off, where is the
world did you get the idea that Usenet was here to promote hobbyists? Does it say that in the charter? This group is
here to discuss glass and its creation as regards to a craft. Nobody on here gives 2 rips if you spend 10 grand on
tools, for glass or wood, nor should they be impressed by your ability to do so. 2nd, this is where I vent on
stupidity, in the glass world or elsewhere, if I so chose to do so, and I also offer up little tidbits of my experience
in working with glass. If you don't like that, or don't chose to read it, or use it, GREAT, good for you, and your
right to do so.. If you got a bum teacher, then I bet his commission work sucks too, and he probably isn't there
anymore unless he is so impressed with his own work that his trust fund allows him to remain. Don't confuse the
attitude of people here with what it is in real life, this is a place for alter egos to come out. Of course a person
can't vent like this in their classroom, then people like you would do what you did. And rightly so. I taught in the
system for 12 years, Adult Ed, stained glass, to people who wanted to be there, they paid, they bought supplies, and I
had alot of people that would take the class that knew what they were doing, because we had a good time and alot of
laughs. No one got physically hurt, they built what they wanted and learned from not only what they did, but what
others did. Even though at that time I had a retail supply store, I taught the classes with cutter, grozing pliers,
straight edge and soldering iron as the major tools. NO grinders, no sales pitches, just learn. NO ONE EVER ASKED FOR
THEIR MONEY BACK, 12 YEARS So what does that have to do with what goes on here? NOT 1 THING, that is my point. Why
should I give a rip what you spend on a glass hobby in Houston? Doesn't effect me in Michigan, not at all. even if you
were visiting here and needed a sq ft of Glue chip. Cause I don't sell it. You really believe that people involved
with glass as a profession care if there are more hobbyists? not particularly, the hobbyist is the person sitting on a
church committee that is building a new church and knows so much about glass that they are determined to make sure they
don't get "ripped off" by the stained glass professional giving a presentation, and asks why the bid is so
high. They understand just enough about stained glass to get themselves in trouble. Good job Roy, brought me out of my
summer sleep, its getting cold here now, got to park the bike and spend more time here, aren'tcha glad?

Don't worry about the troll thing - we've had a plague of the little beggars! Very rude they were too, trying to steal
our identities. Luckily we got together a big stash of ugly fabric, made some troll quilts, and smothered the

thing that bothers me most these days is that James is so grown up at almost 12, and off to grammar school (this one -
