Not very - I've gone through a bunch of them - and they will NOT stand up well for what you want (boat cover),
especially while towing. They come apart [shred] quickly at highway speeds. BTDT! The problem is their construction:
PE fabric coated with more PE. One alternative fabric that you may have overlooked: Naugahyde. This is available in
Wal-Mart, fabric stores, etc., and is, normally, the boat cover material of choice. If your chief interest is in
keeping the stationary boat's interior clean, a single LARGE tarp - primed with Krylon Fusion paint and then sprayed
with Aluminum paint - would be a better choice than trying to piece "silver" tarps together.

I live in rust and humidity central (Florida East coast, on a salt bayou called the Banana River). Rust is so bad here
that spring stock will rust inside sealed plastic bags. In addition my hands are sufficiently acid that I can rust
blued steel just thinkng about touching it. That said, I use LPS 3 for long term storage, Birchwood Casey's Sheath for
blued steel, and Midway's Tipton Rust Guard aerosol spray:
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=248829 The other stuff is available from most gun
stores. I use machine covers sold by HF - a green vinyl outer fabric with a cotton felt like material on the inside,
and always spray the machine down with Rust Guard after use. I open any plastic bags gun springs come in and spray
Birchwood-Casey's Sheath on the steel. Blued steel gets a wipe down with liquid Sheath before storage. I have an old
surplus metal spotting scope box with a gasketed lid that I use to store my arc welding rods. It has two 25W light
bulbs wired in series to keep the moisture down - I have stored rods for years and they are still good. Hope this
helps.....Joel in Florida

I have some of the yellow honeycomb fabric that I used in my Scrappy September blocks. I feels really nice. So nice
that I bought it even though I wasn't sure the honeycomb pattern would fit in with my other scrappy fabrics for that
quilt. I also bought some of the red dragonflies when they were on sale a couple of months ago. I'm using that in my
dragonfly Do-It-Yourself Round-Robin UFO. And I'm using only "quality" fabrics in that one. Can't say how
either of them wash. They are NOT see-thru fabrics. The weave seems tight enough. They don't ravel at lot when I cut
them. I might have to hop right over to my local Ben Franklin and get some of those green dragonflies today. I owe
myself a treat of some kind. (One of those rough weeks that deserves a reward at the end!) Our Ben Franklin stores in
the Reno/Sparks/Carson City area have wonderful quilt departments with only name-brand and LQS quality fabric. Thanks
for the link. I think I need to give in to some good temptation today! Kay Ahr in NV

LOL Down here we have the same problems it seems with our SWLTH (Spotlight). My DSM is always cussin' and screamin'
and yellin' about how she hates the ones near her. Me? I adore my two closest ones, and the one 1/2 hour away which
is like one of those places you go when you just wanna rummage and fossick. And now that my local one is beautifully
refurbished and stocked with more more more - I'm excited!!! -- Sharon from Melbourne Australia (Queen of Down Under)

him about 5 to take him to dinner. Of course, on the way to dinner we detoured into Michael's and both did a little

big round buttons (like we used to see at election time) and of course she leaves tommorrow for convention and there was
no time to order anything online since I still have to print what will go on them too. We had dinner at Golden Corral
and it was reaaally good. They even had filet minon (sp) on the buffet and it was very good! We sat and talked and sat
and talked and talked some more until the restaurant was closed. The employees already had most of the food cleared
away by the time we mosied out of there. This morning when I picked Dave up, our focus was on checking out ARCHIVER'S
in Orland Park. Last night I called my sister who is a regular over there and she and my niece met us...at the Joanne's
next door. We said 10am at Archiver's and since we were early getting there, we ducked into Joanne's first. That was
the first Joanne's that I had been in that had a scrapping section. The one here is an older one with basically fabric
and fabric crafts in it. I will definately go back there!! Joanne's is on the end of the strip mall and Archiver's is
a few stores in...can we say WOW!! I could have really done some wallet damage! But, I was good because I haven't done
anything in awhile, so I need to take inventory...what I have, want and need... It was pretty cool seeing the variety
of new stuff that is out there though! We had an awesome time talking and chatting and just spending time together.
Yes, there was some enabling and some comparing and some tales. Dave is always a joy to have around and I love it when
he visits. Before we left the truck stop this morning, Dave gave me this heavenly scented jar candle...yumm! It will
definately be allowed to "breathe" in my room. :-) Yes, we have pictures... We both had our cameras and we
took a couple of pictures to prove that Dave saw an Archivers. I told him that we'll have to go back again and see the

Try to find patterns which claim they are "quick" or "easy", although that's not always a
guarantee. I like the looks of: http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-
bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.V7957=x&TI=20013&page=1 but it's been a long time since I sewed for a toddler.
I also like Simplicity http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=1&type=4&sec=13&startrow=1 although some
here don't. And pay attention to the "suggested fabric" guidelines on the back of the pattern.
[quote:403e1a5b60]Also do patterns come true-to-size? If I buy T2, will it be the size of T2s in the stores?
[/quote:403e1a5b60] Noooooooo!!! Go to: http://www.voguepatterns.com/indexfv.html click on "Tech Center" |
click on "Standard Body Measurement Chart" | click on "Toddlers" and you'll find *pattern
industry* standard measurements. Patterns don't (usually) come in "1T", "2T", etc. If your
granddaughter is not in your area, ask her mother/father to take those measurements, and *buy the pattern which most
closely matches* the child's *actual* measurements. The first link on the Vogue Tech Center site has "How to
measure" directions. [quote:403e1a5b60]I have no idea where to start. [/quote:403e1a5b60] A good book for

Complete-Sewing-Readers-Digest-editors/dp/0762104201 which will get you up to speed on newer fabrics, and techniques.

Thanks everyone for your very helpful suggestions... I've decided to trim all the blocks (with the paper on), and add a
narrow black sashing. I'm hoping that will make the beautiful colors stand out. The binding will be black too.
Since I'm in PA Amish country, I'll have to wait until tomorrow when the quilt stores open to buy the black fabric.

Dear heavens! I grew up with a hairdresser for a Mom and never even THOUGHT about using pink tape! Most of my fabric

I just may go raid Mom's "remains" closet for the fabric that I need to cut down to size. (and lest anyone be

complicated design and have several threads going at one time. Rather than ending them - just coil up the tail, after
running the line of thread a few inches from where you're working - and then tape it to the surface of the canvas. Just
parking it out of the way, without the needle, is a handy thing. Doesn't get tangled, and saves you from a lot of
ending and starting again. The pink hair tape seems to not leave residue, and is pretty repositionable. I've used it

Thanks for the info, Pauline......it sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Our main destination is actually Altamont,
Ut and we need to be there on Thursday. Winnemucca is about as far as we can travel in one day without being totally
exhausted! We won't spend much time there.....just dinner, sleep and up early the next morning. We like Basque food
though, so will look into that....... I'll look up R.R's Sundance.....I'm not sure we'll have more time than it takes
to shop at Cabela's! From there we head straight to Altamont. From there we head up to Cody, Wy and that's the last
we'll be in Utah this trip. Someday, I 15 will be a trip we take, so I can shop more quilt stores then! But, if you
can easily email the list, I'd be happy to get it! Thanks! Today is packing day so it's a busy one! Laurie G. in

2004. He is a woodturner & took classes in Orem. Not to be missed, in our NSHO is Robert Redford's Sundance, which
is just outside of Provo. (Which is very close to Lehi.) It's absolutely beautiful & the food is spectacular.
There are 2 restaurants there - one is more formal, while the other is more casual. You can't go wrong with either one.
Even if you don't eat there, the drive in is so pretty. Are you committed to staying in Winnemucca? We did on the way
up, but on the way back home to California, we stayed in another town, which I don't remember the name of, but if you're
interested, I can check with DH in the morning. There are a lot of Basque restaurants in that part of Nevada. We ate in
one in Winnemucca & in another one in the other town. There are a lot of quilt shops in the area you are going to
be in. If you are interested, I can email you a list I have from a Shop Hop that had just taken place before I got
there. One store I highly recommend is Mormon Handicraft. The day I was in SLC, they were just getting ready to reopen
in their new location, which is in "This is the Place" State Park. I had a chance to look around, but they
weren't ready for customers yet. The park is very interesting as well. I also went to a shop in Sandy, UT called
Quilt, Quilt, Quilt etc. It's on the way to SLC from Provo. It's the biggest quilt shop I've ever been in - they claim
to have over 10,000 bolts of fabric. My feeling is that if they don't have it, it doesn't exist. (It was actually too
big for me to enjoy, but if you're looking for something special, it's probably there.) I also took a class in a shop in
Springville (near Provo) that was just charming. Fairly large & a nice selection of fabrics. I'd go back there.
Overall, we had really good food in Provo in every restaurant that we went to. -- Pauline Northern California

My dh and I are leaving the sunny state of California on Wednesday to travel to Altamont, Utah via Winnemucca, NV with a
long stop at the new Cabela's in Lehi, Utah. After Altamont, we will travel up to Cody, Wyoming. The Yellowstone Quilt
Fest will be one of the highlights of the days we are there.......Big Horn Quilt Shop http://www.bighornquilts.com/ will
be one of the vendors. From Cody, we will travel to Jackson, Wy, Idaho Falls, Id to Boise, Id, into Oregon and possibly
back down to Winnemucca before heading home. Big question: what should we NOT miss on our travels? I'm talking fabric
and/or fabulous sights. We have about 10 days. I have done a lot of internet searching and Googling but nothing beats
the "local" aspect. It's going to be a fun road trip! I'll get lots of piecing time on my Quilt Patis quilt
and knitting time on my baby afghan......when it's not my turn to drive! Looking forward to any info you lovely folks

We don't know yet about the two new stores. Both rushed to open "first" after the closure of our LQS and both
opened with no fabric on shelves. Quite disappointing Two lovely stores, sweetly decorated. But no fabric to speak of
yet. LOL. Some people have expressed the "I drove all that way to spend money and they had no fabric and I'm NOT
going back." Which is ridiculous. Give the ladies time. But I do hope they have something a bit different. The
decor is so similar and so far the only fabrics either has is EXACTLY the same as the other. I'm hoping one of them will
be a bit "edgy" or even just have something that the other doesn't carry. In the meantime, I'm about to try 1

for this purpose). Anyway, since I was there & rarely get to a Wal Mart (also don't believe in their corporate
practices), I checked out their fabric & was shocked at how little they had, compared to when I was last there,
which could be 2+ years ago. Given their bottom line, it makes sense to me that they would do away with fabric &
anything else that increases their labor costs. I wonder if it is happening everywhere or only where there is likely

Well, I guess for crazy priced housing comes quilt shops. I can think (without thinking too hard and writing it down)
of 16 quilt shops all less than an hour from my house. :-) Yippee!!! Oh, and a chocolate factory double Yippee!

Sincerely, Lisa Vold ---[/quote:bb29f63a98] Lisa, I found the best place to get high count cotton was to find cotton
sheets on sale, and use two sheets instead of cotton yardage.. Some stores sell these sheets separately, (notably, here
in the US, Marshall's, Kohl's, Tuesday Morning Sales, and others) so you can buy two top sheets, and simply sew them
together for a duvet cover. Quick, easy, oand, most of the time, inexpensive.

Our great grandmothers knew it was more fun to piece a top than quilt it. I have begun a project to complete some of

getting enough finished blocks for two throws). I package the blocks and/fabric together for the throw along with

I've bought from The Virginia Quilter, Material Pleasure, and Fabric Shack. I've never had a problem with any of them,
in fact I've had great service from all. TVQ frequently offers free shipping and is easy to find just what you're
looking for as they sort their fabrics by color, theme, manufacturer, etc. Material Pleasure, in first ever dealing
with them, sent me a copy of a pattern that they offer a quilt kit in. No charge, love to help so I bought some fabric
from them out of guilt ;-) and had great service. Fabric Shack has great fabric at great prices. You just have to dig
through the site to find things, but since I love browsing and the price is right, I'm good with that. NAYY with any
of the above, just a very satisfied customer. The Virginia Quilter http://www.virginiaquilter.com Material Pleasure
