might like to know what I've gone and done. I was following the thread on the S@S design, and followed a link to view
some. Beautiful, and I've wanted to do one for a while. I went to the link to get coloring pages for S@S, printed many
8x11 pages, and worked with colored pencils on about 4 different color ways with different aspects of the design being
accented. It was lots of fun!! I couldn't make up my mind which one to do. Then, I followed a link to the Shakespeare in
the Park. Well! I ordered the book last Friday(29th), got it on Monday(2nd), and went fabric shopping on Thursday.
Friday I started to cut, and got the cream strips cut. Saturday was my "friendship group" quilter get
together, and I cut the blue strips. Last night I subcut all the blue pieces, and this afternoon I started the subcuts
for the cream. Judy Martin's instructions don't use short cuts, and since it's design is scrappy, I'm going by her
directions. Onesy-twosy. I love the original quilt shown so much that I tried to duplicate the types of fabrics they
used. Lots of various prints, and some florals, etc. I usually lean toward Batiks, so this is a departure for me, both
in the fabrics and the assembly. Now look at what you guys have started here! And me with a list of ufo's as long as my
arm. Maybe by the time i have this finished, the wall elves will have returned my digital camera so I can post a

Hi Bonnie, I replied to this message, yet it never posted. If you are going to do needle turn appliqué, be sure to add
the quarter inch...but these will still need to be stitched over with either blanket or tiny zig zag. I have seen this
block done "raw edge appliqué" where they leave the edges loose & let them fray. Those block are also
stitched in about 1/2" in. I personally feel that when the bullseye block is done that way, it gives me the
impression of a sloppy block. Our block will be stitched over the raw edge where there will be much less fraying. Teri

I suspect that the term "scrappy" has nearly as many definitions as there are quilters! :-) In my mind the
term refers to a quilt with lots of different prints, the kind one would make if one had only the scrap basket to work
with. As to the term "scrappy star," I haven't a clue. But I bet someone on the group knows just what you

Carissa, There may be a scrappy star block, but to my way of thinking it's your second definition - basically using
scrappy fabrics to create a star block. I'm not an expert on scrappy, but I think it could be many things to many
people. A scrappy quilt could be made of just one color but with a multitude of different fabrics in that color. It
also could be a quilt made with a variety of colors. I think I saw once on Simply Quilts where they put all their cut
scrap pieces into a paper bag and pulled them out at random to sew them together, taking away all of the planning that
normally goes into our blocks. And while a couple of colors may not look too hot together, once you've put them into
the block and assembled the quilt, it doesn't show! -- Louise in Iowa nieland4 at mchsi dot com

of pink that will go well with a couple of other fabrics I caught a glimpse of while repacking the quilty stash...

Sorry, I can't find the original message! I wanted to thank the person who sent me the link to missing fabrics!!! I
have had three replies to my request for Debbie Mumm School days fabric. I am so excited. I know I could use a lot of
other fabrics, make my own designs, and so on, but I had my heart set on the DM fabric because it so suits the teacher
for whom I will be making the quilt. It is so her. So, thank you so much for this link!!!! Claudia

Love all the color suggestions! I decided to go with the green-yellow-white after all. I have soooooo much green.
(Yes, even a bit of lime!) I want to do just the pink-white combination for the Quilt Pink Day to help fight breast
cancer. I'll wait until November 6 to start the pink-white. That's my grandma's birthday. She died of breast cancer
about 20 years ago. The rest of us girls in the family have had some scares and some surgeries, but nothing life
threatening. Grandma lived to 76 without ever having the cancer treated. I bought some of the "official"
Quilt Pink fabric, but not intentionally. I liked the patterns and later found out it was in the Moda Quilt Pink
collection -- the polka dots and stars. So the Quilt Pink fabrics almost went into my polka dot and stars collections.
(I even have a piece from some other manaufacturer than has lime green stars with pink polka dots on white!) Well, back
to cutting my greens for the mystery quilt. Kay Ahr in NV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jessamy

Hello Provence-Fans, I read this news-group and found that some of you are searching for real provencale fabrics. Please
go to the website of www.bonne-provence.com and see all the almost 150 cotton fabrics. You can order online by yard and
US $. More than 300 US customers bought there. You can also order some samples (small patches) for free. The payment is
done via PayPal and the shipment from Germany via UPS. Bonne-Provence is located in Germany and we are provence-fans
and visit the south of France very 3 months. In Germany we also sell via eBay and there we have over 1300 feedbacks.
100% positive. Sorry, if you find this Spam, but after looking a few month on this Group I found that this could be a
nice and important information for you. Kind regards Ralf www.bonne-provence.com

is almost OT, but still deals with one of our addictions. Fondling. I found out recently that my 5yo dgd is a fondler.
I had an unfinished quilt top that I made about 15 years ago. All pinks, peaches and a little lavendar. When I ran into
that top I realized that I had unknowingly made it for her. She loves it. Not the top, but the backing. I put about a
yard and a half piece of "my little ponies" in the middle of the backing and bordered it with a pink polka
dot. Well you can guess which side is displayed up. She fondles it, she pets it and hugs it. Now, here is her best
idea yet. When she was here last week, she collected a grocery bag of fabric scraps. She carried this around like a
purse, so whenever she wanted she could just sit down and play with the scraps. I never go grocery shopping hungry! I
always try to eat first. Now how would that work at the fabric store. Would it work if I could do some fondling in the
car before I actually go in the fabric store? Or would I actually have to carry it in. VBG [/quote:3a350f3726] I think
the eating before shopping works because you can actually fill your stomach, but fondling before shopping won't work
because your hands never get "full" from touching fabrics in the same way. Hands are simply always hungry for
the next tactile sensation. Debra in VA See my quilts at http://community.webshots.com/user/debplayshere

shadow effect -- but the block would still be pretty. BUT..... check out the backs of your fabrics... could you use
the front as 1 fabric and the back as a second... to get the dark/light contrast the block shows? Also --you are early

pale blue or lighter shade of purple would blend in well with the light colored blocks. A different TOT white print
might work for you as well as a solid white or cream. For the darker blocks I'd search the stash for a dark red/garnet
or burgundy as well as a gold or a gray. Perhaps a dark orange would work. You might also think about taking some
of the green from the light colored block stash and use it with the dark blocks. Debra in VA See my quilts at

A few people have contacted me about the Meshwork book I just bought so I have posted the front and back covers on
Webshots so you can see some meshwork and the ISBN http://tinyurl.com/otdzp The book also has a wavy version made up
as a vest, but from the pictures (I don't read Japanese) this seems to have been done by ironing a stabiliser onto two
fabrics, cutting them into wavy strips in opposing directions, and then weaving them together and stitching to hold.
You can try this with paper strips, and thin ribbons make nice miniatures. If you are looking for books, there are
some on meshwork on German and French sites, and you can also search on woven ribbons. This book came from -
http://tinyurl.com/oy4pn but the promised English instructions were not in my book. I am waiting for an email from
them. But the pictures should be enough to follow the methods. -- Cheryl & the Cats _ _ _ _

Ooh! As I read this, I remembered the small stash of quarter inch ribbon I have - with, of course, the potential to get
more. That would be so much neater than the bulky strips from the bias-strip makers (though I *love them) Thanks
Cheryl. I have SO many things in my mind to 'do' after the pressures of this year that next will perhaps be as bad

Saw a gorgeous piece made by my friend Chris: center of NY Beauty blocks in 2 sizes, surrounded by a splendid wide
border of (probably) Kona print, the Japanese flying cranes in rose, cream and brown/green. Chris pulled all the
colors from her inspiration print to piece the blocks. (She is well into SABLE.) You wouldn't have to do NY Beauties.
Simple Ohio Stars done in different colors would be lovely. The idea is to use the super print as your color scheme,
and as a border. Roberta in D "Boca Jan" <poo_de_doo at removeyahoo.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:

Posted by frood on Fri Jun 30, 2006 9:00 PM Post subject: Halloween Swap!
As many of you know, I have hosted an annual Halloween fabric swap for 147 years now. At this point, I have a ton of
Halloween fabrics (under heavy guard by the gargoyles and WoW toons), so I don't really need more. A temptress whom I
will not name has tried to lure me down that path with a new A. Henry print she showed me, but my resolve is firm!
However, a woman from my guild told me about a Halloween *block* swap she participated in, and how great it was, and
that sounded like fabulous fun to me! Not to mention a chance to use up some of my fabrics! Here's what I'm thinking,
and you can let me know if you are interested. If enough are interested, I'll finalize rules and post them here. Any
size block would be fine. Any style of block (paper pieced, applique, traditional piecing). Any embellishments should
be washable or removeable (I like to *use* my Halloween quilts). If the majority don't care about washability, I could
be bribed to change this one. Each person would send enough blocks so each person in the swap gets one. For example,
if 10 people sign up, you send 9 blocks (keep one for yourself). You get back the same number of blocks as you send,
one from each other person in the swap. Blocks could be all the same, or not. Some people don't like making 10 blocks
all the same, so why torture them (except as a hobby). Each person would commit to following through on the swap.
Stuff happens, but you would be responsible to inform the Swap Hostess (me) if you must drop out. Each person will
commit to putting forth their best effort for their blocks. Last minute, slap-it-together blocks are no fun for others.
I'm not expecting Expert Blocks, just do your best. If a zillion people are interested, I may break it down into
groups, so no one has to make a zillion blocks. I'm thinking of a deadline of sending in blocks around mid-September.

have a ton of Halloween fabrics (under heavy guard by the gargoyles and WoW toons), so I don't really need more. A
temptress whom I will not name has tried to lure me down that path with a new A. Henry print she showed me, but my
resolve is firm! However, a woman from my guild told me about a Halloween *block* swap she participated in, and how
great it was, and that sounded like fabulous fun to me! Not to mention a chance to use up some of my fabrics! Here's
what I'm thinking, and you can let me know if you are interested. If enough are interested, I'll finalize rules and post
them here. Any size block would be fine. Any style of block (paper pieced, applique, traditional piecing). Any
embellishments should be washable or removeable (I like to *use* my Halloween quilts). If the majority don't care about
washability, I could be bribed to change this one. Each person would send enough blocks so each person in the swap gets
one. For example, if 10 people sign up, you send 9 blocks (keep one for yourself). You get back the same number of
blocks as you send, one from each other person in the swap. Blocks could be all the same, or not. Some people don't like
making 10 blocks all the same, so why torture them (except as a hobby). Each person would commit to following through
on the swap. Stuff happens, but you would be responsible to inform the Swap Hostess (me) if you must drop out. Each
person will commit to putting forth their best effort for their blocks. Last minute, slap-it-together blocks are no fun
for others. I'm not expecting Expert Blocks, just do your best. If a zillion people are interested, I may break it down
into groups, so no one has to make a zillion blocks. I'm thinking of a deadline of sending in blocks around mid-
September. -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm De-STUFF email address to reply [/quote:ad3bc167cb]

maybe I should start USING Halloween fabric, instead of just swapping it!! So, if it would be not more than about 12-
15 blocks, AND I could make SIMPLE blocks, AND we stuck to PRE-Washed and washable goods, then yeah, I'm in. PAT in

Hi Taria, Many times I go to TSWLTH with coupons in hand and leave without anything. The quality of some of the
fabrics they carry is suspect. They seem to be going for lower prices/lower quality. Hancocks, on the other hand,
seems to be carrying much better fabric and I find myself going back there to check things out more often. I still
like to shop online, from proven sources. Linda in Tx

Hello Provence-Fans, I read this news-group and found that this offer fits here. Please go to the website of www.bonne-

customers bought there. You can also order some samples (small patches) for free. The payment is done via PayPal and the
shipment from Germany via UPS. Bonne-Provence is located in Germany and we are provence-fans and visit the south of
France very 3 months. In Germany we also sell via eBay and there we have over 1300 feedbacks. 100% positive. Kind

Thanks for the 'welcome back' Sandy (and Pat and Kathyl). It's nice to be back! Sandy, since you were so kind to put
the url in this message I went and had another look. I think I'm going to save the picture to look at when I need a
pick me up. <g> The way you've put it together, the fabrics look just right. Using the squares really
showcases the fabric and the four patches add life and movement. Love it, love it, love it! And this is coming from
a person who's into grayed, muddy colors! Next time I'm in Texas (yikes!) can you go shopping with me? I'd like to
try to absorb your color sense.<g> Donna973 [quote:c807412a0d]Howdy! Thank you, Donna. Tossed Salad &
Scrambled Eggs is one of my favorites: http://tinyurl.com/r3lxg That Kaffe Fassett fabric is so fun to play with, it
just speaks, loudly. I couldn't decide which of the collection to buy, so I sent a $check$ to Susan Allen, former
