Susan!!! I didn't think you'd been gone that long....we all know that you've been super busy.....I'm still jealous
that you;re in Germany! LOL on being over the weight limit when you come back. When I was a kid and we moved to
Panama on the return my parents paid thru the nose as they too were over the military weight limit! LOL They brought
back lots of Panamain furniture. Glad to see you;ve been scrappin', I am sooo far behind! -- Kenda (Remove NOSPAM to

this month! Small but did :D Of course i took no pics of it before I sent it to its new home. (it's a two sided 8.5x11
page for Matthew's school room) BUT, I've been touching my supplies and getting inspired to do more. I've made some
cards. I actually have a list a mile long of names to send birthday cards to for the month of October who are downrange.
I need to get hopping since the month ends in a week :X BUT, I also have plans to scrapbook this week. As much as I hate
doing it by myself, I will if I must (and thus I do since no one is into it in my little circle of acquaintances here).
I need to make room for our move next year LOL We're going to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over our weight limit moving back to
the states. Oh which is likely to be back to Minot ND. Oh help me! (we volunteered to do this) Anyone in the lovely
Prairie Rose state? (they had lots of those painted on things for sale when we were first there from 93-96) The
prospects of crafting supplies doesn't sound too good from first reports. If only I was young again and didn't have so
many hobbies LOL Oh I'm Susan... a long ago one time regular here. I'm trying desperately to get back again. I read
most every digest that comes in and think "I need to get in there" but always find something else yelling at
me. I'm married to DH for 15+ years now. 2 boys, CG 13 going on adulthood and Matthew 4 soon to be 5. We currently call
a small village 25 minutes from Heidelberg Germany home. Oh is it ever lovely over here. (well actually a drive out past
the vineyards yesterday was kind of frightening but during the summer... GREEEEEEEEEEEEN every whee) I scrap, cross
stitch, knit, crochet, read (haven't read so much in the previous 15 years as I have since moving to Germany -
something to do with limited US programming LOL), and sometimes write. Ohio is home and where we likely will retire. (I
spent last weekend in London and decided I'm really just a country girl) So, I'm off to fondle my scrapping supplies
and print some pics. I've got our London trip to scrapbook. I got to have my pic with Nick cage and Pope John Paul II
... in wax of course. :D It was a great trip, if just a LITTLE expensive LOL Have a great Tuesday! Matthew and I are
off to lunch with one of the ladies at DHs office. She got home a month ago and we made plans to do this today so
Matthew could join us. They're about the same.... GIGGLING :D Susan Malsch, Germany [/quote:c21fba46de]

sore. Its a good thing that my cats know when to hide. I am going to have such a bruise on my hip. My ability to
navigate on stairs keeps getting worse. Anyway, my fist quilt top was Turning Twenty. An amazingly easy quilt top, which
I managed to screw up but it still works. It was said that you can't screw this one up and that is right because even
though I have some wrong placements the quilt still works. Best advice is to get in there and get going and have fun.

I mentioned a while back that I'd designed a baby quilt for my first grand daughter (due any day now) and that I'd post
it. Though I've been having lots of trouble loading graphics rich pages and doing much of anything in my photos album,
I managed to get pics of the front and back up. I used black and white fabrics in the yellow brick road pattern and
then fuse/appliques lots of brightly colored daisies around the border - if interested, go to

After you put paper on them, the magnetic thing just doesn't work. LOL I'm hoping today to pick up a mini album kit I
saw at Wal Mart several weeks ago. It's this really cute boyish album, about 4" x 4" I guess. Has the mini
album with all the embellishments, etc. I'm going to do it up for my Mom to put in pics of my nephew. (Christmas
present.) He lives in the same town as them, so spends quite a bit of time at "Nana & Papa's". Needless
to say, Mom has quite a few pics of him! LOL Then there's the idea I had the other morning for Christmas gifts. We're
going to take alllllllllll of the digital pics we have, sort them by year, rename pics as needed (maybe), then burn them

Once my Dad gets them, he may not share! LOL (Just a little attached to his grandkids.) So I need to get started on
sorting them. Scary thought since we have digital pics going back to 2001. Of course, I still have my former kitty

Hi Cats, Thanks for your comments. When I ironed one after I had finished it, it turned out to be very suitable for a
coaster - the batting melted because the iron was too hot after my daughter ironed her work jeans with it. The little
quilt died, went very stiff and anorexic looking so I gave it to the girl over the road who was moving to Qld. as a

They're lovely, Di. Why do you think they are too large? They're fine. Using the same principle, but changing the shape
to 6" x 4", you can do some of those and be part of the growing crowds of fabric postcard makers! .. In

Yes, I would also take out the two end pieces you have flipped and start your new infill section from there. Somehow
these two pieces jump out and say 'we are upsidedown'! If you did Roberta's idea of just having the borders on three
sides, you could put any left over bits that you did not use for the corners on to some pillows for the top of the bed.

problem is the corners. she had made corners by turning two of the truncated pyramids upside down, but they were not in

My mind wouldn't go to what a truncated pyramid was either, Pat. I even went to Webster to see if what I thought
'truncated' was resembled the real definition. I didn't expect to be any help, just won't hurt me to learn something

<4i9mrlF2q96cU1@individual.net>, DrQuilter mvignali@dogu.washington.edu> writes I finished putting together the
top with the dresden plates - blocks can be seen on my webshots page 'rescue quilts' folder. together with 12 finished
and 6 center-less bloks, the ziplock bag I got at the estate sale ended up including a border of scallops made from
alternating dresden blades and truncated pyramids (how they got there is a different story.. lets just say they wanted
to be together but they had been separated.. :o). after finishing the top I measured this border and figured out it was
long enough to go around. I know I have seen pics of quilts of this era finished with a scalloped edge an I assumed this
is what she intended to do. I still havent thought about the binding, but my current problem is the corners. she had
made corners by turning two of the truncated pyramids upside down, but they were not in the right spots for my top, so I
flipped those. I temporarily basted the border to the top to get an idea of how it would work, and it turns out the
sizes are such that I end up with a truncated pyramid on both sides of the corner, but I have a triangular gap and I
don't see how flipping two pieces would take care of that - of course I can unsew as many pieces from the corner as
possible and flip them - but should I also round the corners of the top and if so how much? I am not sure I have enough
room to make the right curve - I only added a 2" muslin border all around... I have never done something like this
and I wondered if you have or if you have books with pis of quilts finished this way. I couln't find anything in my
books or the web my goal with these rescue quilts is to make them as accurate as possible, right fabrics, right
style.... I'll post a pic in webshots so you guys can see my problem and suggest what to do - remember I have no fabric

This is to be her quilt, and it's supposed to be her light weight summer quilt! Oops, so I got started a little late!
Her grandmother is going to take the top and have it quilted for me, and then I'll do the binding when it gets back
here. I might have it finished by Christmas! I'll try to get photos soon. I just decided on how to handle the siggies

fabric from the sale shelf...Just $2.97 per yard! Great stuff too. Then I wandered over to the cotton corner and
bought a yard of the perfect purple for binding the penguin wall hanging. All I have to do is figure out how to finish
putting the back together for that one, then I can baste and quilt. Oh, I also have to put a hanging sleeve. Hmm, I'll

I wish my fabric were that organized. When it comes to fabric organization... I'm at a loss. A good number of my
mini-tubs are "finished" quilts... the leftovers. I've kept them that way because I know what fabric I used
in what quilt (kind of -- for the most part) and so I know where to look for it. I don't have a lot of large
yardages.. mostly FQs and remnants. Hopefully when DH gets my shelves finished... I'll be able to tackle that. I
still have more big totes than I have room for in the room. So I either need to break them down... or move them into

together at an Italian Restaurant, Josephine's. (I wore my new hat!) There were 16 of us, some who I knew already, and
some who were visiting Houston for the first time, including Pati, Barbara, and Jeanne. Pati brought chocolate. Yea! On
Saturday I was happy to have breakfast with Sandy F and Judy, who were staying at my hotel. Sandy and I went to some
vendors together, and we both got free books at the Pfaff booth. Later, I met up with my friends Sheryl, and her DH, who
live in another part of Texas. We hadn't been together since 1999!! I taught Sheryl how to quilt way back. Sheryl
brought me a group of Western Theme FQ, and I met her sister! Mostly, it was wonderful to see them again. Then I joined
the RCTQ Bunch. I saw some 'old friends' (Ragmop, Diana, Kellie and Kids, and more) and finally had a chance to meet
Butterfly!! Yea! We took lots of photos. The visit was too short ... it always is!! I didn't even get a chance to give
some farewell hugs. (Pout) All in all, I saw many, many beautiful quilts, and a few I didn't especially like! All were
of interest to me, as I absorbed ideas for color, set, quilting patterns and so on. Two of the quilts wearing ribbons
were made by friends! Cool. What did I buy? Some Indigo for an Idea I have! <G> Some FQ of unique color or
design. Several wonderful Dots for Terbear's Dotty Block Swap! A couple of gadgets and gifts. The Piece De Resistance?
My Black Urban Cowgirl Hat .... sparkling all over with Rhinestones!! I had lots of fun, but I agree with Dorothy:
"There's no place like home." All for now ... Pat in Virginia[/quote:c4e40f20bb]

The funny thing was I didn't realize it at first, because when I was reading the list of winners posted at the start of

I am going to lay the blocks out on the floor and take a picture though, just so I can see how many I have and get a

Dear Julia, I would love to see some pics of your Sunbonnet Sues. My mom has made so many of those, designing a lot
herself. I think I have one or two of her "orphan" Sunbonnet Sue blocks. Would you like them if I can find
them? Sunny julia sidebottom wrote: [quote:2ed87edc9a]It is always a hard decision to make when it comes to spending

today the sewing won out (again). I finished 8 more Sunbonnet Sue blocks. The blocks are all 6" blocks. So far I
have 92 different sunbonnet sues and sams. I spend a good deal of time searching the net for different patterns and
designs to use. There is a real bonanza of block designs available so it seems that when I haven't been stitching I
have been looking for more Sunbonnet Sues. I am making this quilt for myself. It is the quilt I would have wanted for
myself as a little girl so I am going to fulfill that dream with this quilt. I know I am going to have to put it aside
pretty soon though because I must get busy quilting the quilts for the grand kids. I finished the last of the blocks
the other day for the last of their quilt tops. I just have to sew the last row onto the top and it will be done. When
I start that part I know I will have more time for the group because the ole fingers will get tired as the quilting
comes together. Well back to the sewing machine. julia[/quote:2ed87edc9a]

Thank you for the offer Sandy, but we really have lots of generous folks in the area, guild and non guild members who
have given us lots of supplies, as a matter of fact we have exceeded our alloted space in church store room where we
meet! <g> Just another testament to the generosity of quilters/sewers in general. we also got a wonderful
donation of FAb fabric from Carol Doak when she posted here, looking to donate to groups, that was an excellent windfall
and we have put it to good use. It finally dawned on me that we could just ask for gift certificates at our local store
and stay just as we are, without going through the rigamarole(sp??) of incorporating and becoming a non-profit
organization. It just seems to me that we are taking several people away from sewing if we were to go that route, which
is why we formed the group to sew what we want.....we wanted loose rules and freedom to act quickly with a gift of a
quilt. soooo that is what we will do .....I am sure all who belong will agree. I love the idea of the group in your
area who does this, I would welcome trading info from someone in that group if they are interested. BTW we are called
Round Barn Quilters, which refers to the HUGE round barn that is the land, mark of our local fair, Central Wi State Fair.
Also, should be in the new directory if I did it right, so I may ask at some point for orphan blocks or help filling out
a quilt design(like last year when we could've used some blues to round out a quilt) We did it though, it went to our
local swim team to raffle. Mauvice Sandy Ellison wrote: [quote:40989753b3]Howdy! Oh, goody, I was hoping you'd say
that, Mauvice. <g As Debra says, you can politely say "Thanks, but-- no, thanks." Btw, you can ask for
donations for batting, etc.. If y'all have a name for your little group, use it. One of the local quilting groups (in
the next small city) has lots of fun being "independent" of the guilds. They move quickly, as you say. They
document most of their quilts and donations w/ pics to the quilts and receivers; they use this to show others what
they're doing, that they are a real group of quilters, that they do charitable work, and that any and all donations will
be used as requested. Some of these quilters are members of a guild, but their group is not. Works just fine. So, you
want donations for batting or backing or other supplies? Speak up. (Not being in the directory I don't have your addy,
but my email is as shown. <g> ) Congrats and pats on the back for y'all's Good Works. Good luck! Ragmop/Sandy

idea of a larger organization accepting donations on our behalf is great the church where we meet would be happy to do
this I am sure...(this is the point that the president of the guild was aiming at to "keep us from getting into
trouble with the state over accepting donations....but my concern there was that we could possibly come under the review
and desires of the larger group which are not always charitable to the community at large) An example: one member
brought up that we should make quilts for the "homeless" which precipitated a longgggggg discussion as to
whether we actually had homeless in our community. Gee whiz .... The other smaller group would have discussed the
request and then acted. Done ....Swing into action... So I think we will just work through this and stay autonomous
Mauvice in central WI wrote: Several years ago a group from my regular guild formed a small sewing group that does only
charity work. We are gaining some notoriety in the community, and the president of the original large guild would like
us to come under their umbrella. The reason we formed this group was to GET THINGS DONE. The large group is so
cumbersome, with the typical beuracracy of getting a project off the ground takes so long the need is passed, we formed
this group to fulfill a need in the community. We have no dues, no newsletter, no real perks like demos and classes
just a group who gets together to make quilts for fire victims, soldiers, Katrina victim, chemo patients, and retirement
homes, etc.....soooooo.... here is our dilemma, the worry is that if we come under the large guild's umbrella we will
lose our autonomy. We are not really interested in fund raising or forming a non-profit organization(would require too
much valuable sewing time to take care of all these tasks) Finally my question: Does anyone have any experience with
this or ideas how to limit any control the large group would have over us? I can see that this may become an issue
since another organization wishes to make us a monetary grant(not a lot, but enough to buy batting
etc.).....Yikes....just a group that wanted to make quilts to give away has become a big deal. Mauvice in Wi
