years old, a large blue heeler 12 years old whom both sleep inside, live inside during the day as well as outside, and
we have no problems what so ever. We have accumulated a 7 month old beagle / spaniel who is into everything. I
considered parting with her as she chews everything in the house. My dilemma is she sleeps in her kennel outside very
peacefully during the cold and warm weather and I feel guilty that the other 2 have always and still do sleep inside.
When we were given the beagle, she had been sleeping outdoors then in the same kennel. Should I be feeling guilty about
leaving her sleeping outdoors at night or should I just assume that she is use to it and happy about it. The three dogs
play together inside / outside during the day, mostly outdoors on nice weather. Can someone help me, I am confused or
guilty or what??? P.S. beagle training - where, how and when? Cheers Sandy [/quote:487c9a7f21]

Went to visit my daughter in LaPlata, MD this weekend. She wanted to sleep late, so I took a short trip (walking
distance from her house) to Material Girls with the intention of buying only patterns - after all patterns burn fabric
calories. I picked up some nice ones as well as some goodies for the SS, when I was hit with some must have black-and-
white prints for a project I have in the planning stages. But, it was only 2 yards, so not a very big deal. Then back
to DD's house, get her awake and she she says, "Hey, Mom, I found another quilt shop in Waldorf." So off we
go. Now this one has a close out on some great high quality fabrics (even found a Hoffman print I've been looking for
for a quilt binding) on closeout. They were pre-cut yards - 10 pieces for $25. I did hold myself to 10. In the old
days, I probably would have bought 40! Linda PATCHogue, NY

<dbeitzell@yahoo.com Subject: 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM for November Date: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 5:32 AM Happy
Halloween! *BOO!* I'm heading off on vacation in the morning, so I thought I'd better get these posted before I leave!
Maybe when I get back I'll get photos of mine and get them to Teri to post! Enjoy! Dannielle How this BOM works is I
will post block patterns each month near the beginning of each month. One is pieced, one appliqué and one paper pieced.
It is up to you which one (or ones) you would like to do. You will work at your own pace over the course of each month.
You keep your blocks. You do not mail them to me. At the end of the year you will have twelve blocks to set into a
quilt. You keep the quilt. You do not mail it to me (unless you really feel the need to give me this gift!). You will
then have your very own 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM quilt. When I announce a month's block patterns, I will also include the
previous months' as well so if you decide to join along the way you will have all the blocks. Pieced blocks and paper
pieced blocks will be 12" in size whenever possible and appliqué blocks will be whatever I can find that is
available. Feel free to size up/down if you so chose. This BOM will run from April 2006 through May 2007. This is how
the schedule breaks down: =============================================================== April 2006 - March 2007:
Monthly blocks April 2007: Completing the Top (setting, sashing, borders, etc.) May 2007: Completing the Quilt
(quilting, binding, labeling, etc.) - Done! Marcia Hohn has a pin rating on her site (www.quilterscache.com) that rates
the level of difficulty of her block patterns. One pin blocks are fairly simple and they increase in difficulty as the
number of pins increase. I will start with one pin blocks and increase our difficulty as we go so that we are
challenged, but not overwhelmed! I also consider myself a fairly novice quilter, and these will all be blocks I would
be willing to try (well, maybe not the appliqué). Most of the blocks with only have three colors to them; however, some
of them may have four. Finished blocks can be seen at http://gallery.ppwp.com/gallery/RCTQ-2006-2007-BOM I must give a
very large THANK YOU! to Teri for maintaining the gallery! Dannielle April 2006: Pieced Block:

From: "Dannielle" <dbeitzell@yahoo.com> Subject: 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM for November Date: Tuesday, October
31, 2006 5:32 AM Happy Halloween! *BOO!* I'm heading off on vacation in the morning, so I thought I'd better get
these posted before I leave! Maybe when I get back I'll get photos of mine and get them to Teri to post! Enjoy!
Dannielle How this BOM works is I will post block patterns each month near the beginning of each month. One is pieced,
one appliqué and one paper pieced. It is up to you which one (or ones) you would like to do. You will work at your own
pace over the course of each month. You keep your blocks. You do not mail them to me. At the end of the year you will
have twelve blocks to set into a quilt. You keep the quilt. You do not mail it to me (unless you really feel the need
to give me this gift!). You will then have your very own 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM quilt. When I announce a month's block
patterns, I will also include the previous months' as well so if you decide to join along the way you will have all the
blocks. Pieced blocks and paper pieced blocks will be 12" in size whenever possible and appliqué blocks will be
whatever I can find that is available. Feel free to size up/down if you so chose. This BOM will run from April 2006
through May 2007. This is how the schedule breaks down: ===============================================================
April 2006 - March 2007: Monthly blocks April 2007: Completing the Top (setting, sashing, borders, etc.) May 2007:
Completing the Quilt (quilting, binding, labeling, etc.) - Done! Marcia Hohn has a pin rating on her site
(www.quilterscache.com) that rates the level of difficulty of her block patterns. One pin blocks are fairly simple and
they increase in difficulty as the number of pins increase. I will start with one pin blocks and increase our
difficulty as we go so that we are challenged, but not overwhelmed! I also consider myself a fairly novice quilter, and
these will all be blocks I would be willing to try (well, maybe not the appliqué). Most of the blocks with only have
three colors to them; however, some of them may have four. Finished blocks can be seen at

I can totally understand Jo. Don't part with the quilt. I still have my very first one I made which was chewed on by
ol' Tassie Jim (the binding is falling to bits but I haven't repaired it) and then loved to death by Merlot. I've
washed it but bits of his fur (he would insist on sharing so much of his fur!) have stuck to it, and I think that's a
sign that he's still around. The kids snuggle with it sometimes to remember. I also have the quilts that I made for
my nan and pop and gave them before they passed. When I snuggle I remember how happy they were and that they enjoyed
the quilts too. Quilts retain memories and have an ever expanding ability to hold more. They are special.

You are right... BOM is block of the month. Each person does their own thing. In their own fabrics. In their own
time. They don't send or receive anything. The patterns (traditional pieced, appliqué and paper pieced). You can do
all... some or any combination. No penalties for not finishing if life interrupts. It is a "cyber" group
project in that pictures are shared and conversations are shared... and in the end you have a quilt that commemorates
your 2006-07 participation in RCTQ. If you scroll down in the posts.... you can see the links to all previous BOMS for
the year. So if you have the time and the inclination ... you can join in at any time! Hope that makes sense! Kate

Pat thanks for calling thiat to my attention. I knew a full was the same as a double but I had taken a pain pill, I
hate to take pain meds so this was a big step for me, finally gave in and took one, and I guess it just didn't

inches across and divide by 4 (ex. a double is 78 inches. 78 divided by four is 19.5, so 20 squares.) then, divide the
length by 4 (ex. 87 divided by 4 is 21.75 so, 22 squares.) To make a double size quilt of 4 inch squares will take 20

you have been to me just getting ready to get started trying to learn to quilt. Can someone please tell me about how
many 4 inch squares it would take to make just a plain quilt, no patterns, just squares sewn together? I would like to
make it for a full size bed, there will be nothing between the blocks and I have no idea how I will quilt it or what
type of backing I will use. I also need to know about how much material I will need to purchase for the backing. I
read several newsgroups but this is my favorite, OH I dislike some of the groups because they have so many spamers on
them but this one has been great so far. I remember the help you all gave me years ago when I first got this crazy
idea I wanted to learn to quilt. I just hope that my health will allow it, and if I have to go slow that is fine too. I
have to go slow at everything else so this is probably not going to be much different. Of course as I said in my first
post due to family illness I never got around to doing it. If I remember correctly I had a blood clot in my leg when I
quit posting and decided it was going to have to wait a while for me to start. Then my mother got sick and the rest is
history. Nothing is going to stop me this time, I Hope. All my quilts will probably have to be pre-cut although
eventually, if it is something I like doing and something that I can do I would like to try to cut my own. I am hoping
that my eyesight gets better, I have glaucoma and just recently had two surgeries for it, one worked great the other has
left me with blurred vision. My pressures were in the 50's so I had no choice in having this done. This new
orthopedic that I am going to on Monday I hope and pray that he can do something to help the other body parts that
don't work quite right. I had a light heart attack in August of last year and then had some lumps in my breast, had to
have that taken care of and then the fall in Dec. that is what I attribute most of my pain and problems to still yet,
this has just all gotten me down, along with losing my mother last year. Thinks have to get better and I need
something to for myself. Quilting is going to be the thing I try first and I hope it is the only thing I have to try.
Folks you all have it together and make a wonderful group. I am going to ask that those of you that pray to please pray
for me, today I have not been able to walk at all, had to get my father to get my mother's scooter out for me and the
pain has been so bad that I have cried off and on all day long. I hate pain medications but decided to take something
tonight. I am lucky that I have a very high tolerance to pain but at this point wish it was higher. Although I don't
know you folks yet I already love you all. Thanks bunches and many hugs to all, have a great weekend, Jacqueline

Otherwise, the math is all wrong. If the 4" is unfinished, then the squares are only 3.5". and it will take
more. You will need to divide length and width by 3.5 not 4. Tricia http://photos.yahoo.com/momiixii A&T wrote:

and 3/4 yards for binding. A queen is 84 X 92 and needs 7 1/2 yards for the backing and 7/8 yards for binding. It
doesn't give yardage for a full, so I suggest you measure the size you want and adjust the above accordingly. As for
the squares, take the inches across and divide by 4 (ex. a double is 78 inches. 78 divided by four is 19.5, so 20
squares.) then, divide the length by 4 (ex. 87 divided by 4 is 21.75 so, 22 squares.) To make a double size quilt of 4
inch squares will take 20 across by 22 down, so 440 squares. Clear as mud? Tricia http://photos.yahoo.com/momiixii

all that sounds right to me too, Tricia. i wonder if that size full/double includes the drop over the sides? what about
some to cover the pillows? might be worth first measuring how big Jacqueline wants it to be finished. also agree with
the finished vs unfinished square size. need to know that. unfinished, in case J doesnt know, is the starting size of
the sqs. finished is the size of the sqs in the quilt, so not including the seam allowances. so many things to consider
but once you know all that its easy to work out the sizes with squares. 'trip around the world' is one design that is
made entirely with squares. its all in the colours and layout. this can also be done somewhat scrappy if you work it
out by value of colour. there are other layouts that just use sqs. if you have a bunch of scrappy squares you can work
out 9 patches from those and then alternate those with bigger plain squares of fabric. time for dinner here so brain
cant think of more right now. i'm sure someone else will come up with a few more all sqs layouts. you can do this, J.
just take it slow and gentle as you feel up to working, even in short bursts of ten minutes here and there will
eventually get that quilt made. just stick around here and you'll get all the help you need along with a few laughs
and support as required. :) off to find some dinner, jeanne -- san-fran at ihug dot co dot nz nzlstar on yahoo msg'r

Ah-ha!! (we were each in our own dimension!) Thanks for the picture - all is now clear. I think the neatest solution
would be to make a somewhat chubby segment of a circle - pointed base (instead of the flattened plate pieces) and an
angle to fit between the two straight pieces that you end up with. I can see that it is not a right angle, so you will
need to accurately measure that angle and make a pattern shape, add the seam allowance and use it as a template. In a
decorative border like that, or a pieced border, the corners are very often slightly different from the side runs. So
the fact that the corners are differently shaped will not look odd. If you only have plate pieces to work with, you
could sew two together and put the template on the pair, to get the 'chubby' piece; or, if you have no plate pieces
left, you could use your muslin. By the way, I know you didn't ask, but when you do get to the point of finishing the
quilt, you might like to consider a 'facing', rather
