since my sewing room is basically insulated with cabinets full of fabrics, so surely I can find _something_ to co-

Must find roofing shovels and hard-hats. Me and sleeveless outer-wear don't mix. And I've decided, from here out, all

nesting to a whole 'nother level. Cea (yawn)

That story made me laugh. When we visited southern Minnesota from our home in the north of the state, all us kids
thought it had rained the night before because the soil was so dark. We hadn't seen rich, black loam in years! My
dad used to say that the only things he could grow in northern Minnesota was jackpines and kids. <grin> Thanks
for bringing back a memory that made me chuckle. -- Carolyn in The Old Pueblo If it ain't broke, you're not trying.

That window is why I"m up there! I could have a larger space in the basement. It wouldn't be terrible. It would
be well lit and I could custom design it (kind of like I did with the shelving here). But I couldn't have windows.
Decided to take smaller square footage.. and keep the window! Kate in MI http://community.webshots.com/user/K_Groves

I wish my fabric were that organized. When it comes to fabric organization... I'm at a loss. A good number of my
mini-tubs are "finished" quilts... the leftovers. I've kept them that way because I know what fabric I used
in what quilt (kind of -- for the most part) and so I know where to look for it. I don't have a lot of large
yardages.. mostly FQs and remnants. Hopefully when DH gets my shelves finished... I'll be able to tackle that. I
still have more big totes than I have room for in the room. So I either need to break them down... or move them into
the guest room or the basement (2 flights down). Kate in MI http://community.webshots.com/user/K_Groves --

way too much overflow hanging out in the guest room that I need to move back into the sewing room... so soon we'll
have that done! My Purple BOM (EQ design in webshots) is almost complete. Need to finish adding the borders to

Love the Wedding Ring Quilt and the colors. Some day I will try one, when I am better at sewing curves. They are still

At the moment, my entire sewing room is permeated with fine red dust. It's in the air, on the floor, all over my sewing
machine. The head of the needle is filled with it and I had to rub the white thred to get teh red fibers off it. Maybe
this guy would like to have some microscopic red stuff? LOL Seriously, this is amazing and hard for me to believe.

I saw a wonderful piece by Talking Quilts (can't find on the web now) called "motto" about how coin collectors
are not expected to spend their coins and stamp collectors are not expected to mail their stamps so why do people think
I need to sew my fabric into something - I am a fabric collector. I also love the vest kits at Tabitha Quilts for only
$29. I wanted to buy one but I was afraid it would just sit in the sewing room and never get made up. I have enough
projects waiting their turn that actually have deadlines.

Hi Leslie, Thanks for the post, this gives me a great idea for a cutting table. I am going to hijack and modify your
plans if that is ok! Cutting tables are so expensive and I am also working out (in the mind) how I could make this
collapsable (sp?) as we have a very small home. I have what may be a really good idea, but I need to draw it out and
consult with my brother who does construction to see if it will work! Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. wrote:

Posted by Marigold on Sun Oct 08, 2006 2:55 PM    Post subject: Re: The Power of a Squishie

This is so true Nancy! I had a lovely surprise squishie on Friday. Having received several from RCTQ friends for my
birthday a couple of months ago, my husband apparently took note of how pleased I was. The squishie on Fri was from
him. Purchased and mailed while he was out of town for a one day seminar. What a sweetie I have! I guess the women in
the LQS that he went into were very surprised to realize he even new what he was looking for! The owner of the shop had
to explain to a couple of her other customers what a squishie was! It really is amazing the joy that these little
packages can bring. I'm hoping to have my living room finished early this next week so I can get back to my sewing
room and rootle for the right pieces to send on. Pay it forward is such a lovely concept! Happy Thanksgiving Marilyn

Golly Kellie what a frustrating mess. I made my DD a robe one year at Christmas and told her it was a $100 robe. I
knocked the serger out of time and it cost about $100 to get it fixed. I have had my serger for over 10 years and still
go around and around with it some days. Sometimes just walking away is a good thing. If you go back to it you may find
things go better. In the meanwhile read the manual <LOL> One of the local community colleges near here has a
serger class. Might be worth looking in to for you? You are in good company. Most of us have btdt. Taria Kellie J.

Rebecca I have a pattern sheet that shows you how to do flying geese with only squares. The only way that I do them
know. It is sooooo easy and there are several sizes on the pattern sheet. I will look for it this weekend. I think
that I am going to add a pattern page to my web site so that I can just post things there for people to download. I
will let you know when I find it so you can look at it if you want to. Way to go on the success as well. Steve

about which way to orient the seam allowances under the presser foot so that the seams match up without shifting. I was
going crazy last week with flying geese units that kept shifting apart when I stitched them, and I'd rip the stitches
out, redo the seams, flip them open and invariably shout expletives when I discovered they had shifted apart AGAIN! I
got so frustrated about it that I ended up storming out of the sewing room and didn't go back for a few days, until I
read your wonderful explanations and suggestions. Tried it out with the top seam allowance sticking up toward the
presser foot as advised, and got much, much better results. Hooray!!! :-) Thanks so much for the help!

congratulations!! Rebecca. it all takes time and practice and a little help from your friends, lol. which method of
making flying geese do you use? just curious. my favourite is the no waste method at the bottom of this link page.
http://www.patchpieces.com/Sharing.html i tried this and the first time i made 150 of them in one weekend, all by
myself. they all turned out great. any size you want to make are easy to work out with the formula too. so have you got
pix of your flying geese somewhere yet? cheers, jeanne -- nzlstar at yahoo dot com nzlstar on yahoo msg'r nzlstar on

Many of you may remember the HUG quilt you helped to make possible for my friend Allison who was going through Breast
Cancer treatments last year. She still adores her quilt and carries it with her all over the state of Texas to the many
Cancer Awareness groups she visits and speaks to. At one of these recent events, a woman came up to her and asked her
if she could speak to the person who made the quilt for her, wanting to know if I would be willing to do a commissioned
quilt for her. Under any other circumstances, I would have been overjoyed at this request, but under the current
situation, with the new house and move - not only am I not in a position to take on this project, but even once we are
moved and my new sewing room is set up, I have multiple previous committments that need to be completed first! She has
asked if I know of anyone else who might be willing/interested to make a Breast Cancer quilt for her. So I am posing
this question to you RCTQ! Do you know of anyone, preferably at least within the state, who would be willing to work
with this woman to make a quilt for her? If so, please feel free to email me off the group - tina at ogd - graphics

Hello everyone! I know it's been a while, but I've been busy! The long arm quilter came, and of course, was NOT
problem free. There were part damaged, parts on back order, free giveaways sent separately. We finally have it all
assembled and are ready to quilt! I decided to do some practice quilts first. My mom had a bunch of cheater quilt tops
with the backing so we are going to practice on them. I know Curtis will be getting pictures as we go, he just took
some of the quilter standing idle. It's in our livingroom, which looks like it could be turned into my studio by the
end of the year. We really don't use the living room much anyway. We'll switch the living room with the sewing room.
And I'll call it my 'studio'. I've been designing quilts, wallhangings and tablerunner with my new software and will
be selling the patterns on my website. Curtis and I have been working overtime at our full time jobs, and I think we
will probably be pushing that date to early November, as much as we like the overtime money, we are hoping that will
stop this week and we can both get to work. Anyone out there who would like some scraps let me know, my copper boiler
is over flowing again. All I ask is for the postage, I can stuff quite a bit in a flat rate box for $8.10 postage.
Email me and let me know, I'll take payments through PayPal. Happy Quilting All Marie

Well, finally! I took the advice from several of this group and signed up with news.individual.net. I can post again!
Now I will be able to add my own 2 cents every now and then! Haven't done anything quilty all summer, but have just
cleaned out the sewing room, so there is hope now! First I have to find homes for all the stuff that had been tossed
into the sewing room over the last few months and has just now been tossed into the living room. It is NOT going back
into my space! Cleaning and sorting fabric, gadgets, notions, patterns, thread, etc has certainly got me itching to
actually do something quilty! What to do first???? I know, I know.... put away the mess first..... grrr.... but I want
to play! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Thursday..... or maybe Friday already where you are. Marilyn in

Please check responses within quoted message..... and note at bottom. <G> Debra wrote [quote:0d900d426e] Here is
my list of things to check when that's happening to me. I usually do all three of these things before I try sewing
again. Bobbin inserted so that the thread is unwinding in the wrong direction. (I've got two machines and the bobbins
unwind in opposite directions so I forget which is which way sometimes so I double check the manual.)
[/quote:0d900d426e] A hint for all bobbins..... when inserting a bobbin into a machine, the thread must always make a
"U-turn" in order to engage the tension. If you remember this it is easy to see how a bobbin goes into any
machine. <G> [quote:0d900d426e] A short length of thread (or other stuff) lodged somewhere in your bobbin area.
(Remove bobbin and look behind bobbin case for any offending thread.) [/quote:0d900d426e] Always a good idea. Also check
the feed teeth/ feeddogs for lint build up. You would be amazed at the difference in sewing when the lint builds up in
there. <G> [quote:0d900d426e] Something just plain threaded wrong somewhere. (Rethread the whole machine.)
[/quote:0d900d426e] Again, a generally good idea. Also check your thread. Make sure it isn't "bad". And check
using the same thread top and bottom. [quote:0d900d426e] If nothing helps I know it's Murphy's Law or Rebellious Machine
Syndrome keeping the machine from working right at this time. In this case I just give up. Somehow the machine
magically "fixes" itself overnight and it works perfectly the next day. Debra in VA See my quilts at
http://community.webshots.com/user/debplayshere [/quote:0d900d426e] As to the type of needle..... it depends on the
Singer machine. Never use Singer needles in non-Singer machines. They are different in length and in the size of the
"little bump below the eye on the back of the needle"..... <G> You can actually see the difference if
you compare the two. That is why some Singer machines really need to use Singer needles. Some work fine with Schmetz
needles, some don't.
