Akkkkk!! silly lad! and good for you to laying down the law! - he's lucky by the sound of things when my mother hit the
roof over tidying up we were banished to our rooms till they were tidy - no exiting the room for *any* reason till it
was clean. (and I can tell you that by the time we needed to "go" we got *fast*) at 12 he should indeed know
not to push the limits over something like this. I certainly understand the dyslexic memory thing it's what makes me go
up stairs to do/get something and forget why as soon as I'm there <sigh> at least at home it's no big deal - just
a couple of stairs to run up and down extra to keep me fit LOL but when I worked it could be a real pain! only a few
more days and you will have him back in school -- Jessamy (and the BBC will*finally* start broadcasting kiddie TV at
sensible times again - like when I want to do the cleaning) In The Netherlands Take out: _I love the colour_ to reply.
www.geocities.com/jessamy_thompson http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jessamy_thompson/my_photos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nope! He failed miserably to get out the door! He 'lost' his watch,
which he'd need for time checks to make sure he was in the right place at the right time to get the bus back. The
result was that I hit the roof and he hit the tidy-up button - with a lot of persuading! He lost his lunch over it.
After telling him to eat it twice, I then told him if he didn't eat it NOW he'd loose it. He said he wasn't hungry...
by the time he wanted it, I'd binned the bread and poured the soup down the drain. Tough. He's almost 12. By now he
should know I mean what I say! He still has things to sort out and put away. Lots of crap on what should be book and
toy shelves, and a box of miscellaneous junk I will bin if it isn't empty and everything in it put away by the end of
tomorrow. That includes things like his Game Boy if I find it lying around again... He still has labels to sew on
clothes (about 3 more pairs of socks and 6 shirts) - I've done his blazer, sports kit, shoes, knickers, lab coat and CDT
apron: anything he loses at school after this, he replaces. I've put a stopper on all modelling, Warhammer activities,
and anything else until this is done and he's up to date with everything needed for school on Tuesday. The watch
eventually turned up on the shelf by his bed - where he swears he'd looked! Yeah - like glanced and hadn't seen it!
Lucky, really, or he'd have been replacing that tomorrow - out of his own money! I got NONE of my sewing done at all,
between sewing his labels on and chivvying him to death to get the crap heap/dumpster he calls his bedroom tidy enough
to breath in safely! I've told him in no uncertain terms that the only things I expect to find on his bedroom floor
from now on are the carpet and the furniture, and anything else is likely to vanish into the bin without warning.
Clothing that vanishes this way he will be expected to replace. And he will: *I* have control of his bank book, and I
will draw money out of his account to replace missing items if I need to. -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des
Howdy! Welcome home, Maureen! Sounds like a fun retreat, esp. w/ all those zippers. (never put in a zipper in my life,
don't intend to start now <g>) Making no judgments on family and the like, or their likes, how sweet of you to
make that sundress for your uncle's wedding; I'm sure he'll look quite fetching, however unconventional. A table
runner, too? Having not heard otherwise, I'm sure it turned out beautifully, you pre-washed the fabrics, right? (hi,
Polly! NASA wants to know if you can make enough of those placemats to cover a Space Shuttle, small one, of course
<g>) Bet you're so busy you haven't even noticed any changes in your stash; raiders are good, real good, about
covering tracks. ;-D Looking forward to the pics. Ragmop/Sandy On 8/18/06 8:11 AM, in article
them in. I had a big pile of things with me, but didn't get much of it done. Managed to finish a sundress for my
uncle's wedding in September, late Tuesday night, after I'd ripped out the zipper once, managed to somehow get the
orginial zipper off its track and spent half an hour trying to get back on track, breaking about 4 needles, and making a
run into the Walmart "in town" for more needles and two more zippers (figured at the rate I was going I might
need a spare), Fortunately the second zipper went in smoothly and I was able to finish the dress except for the hem.
Wednesday, after discovering the spool of thread that I thought was nearly full was not because everything on the spool
ended up on the bobbin (does that make any sense?) and begging thread from one of the other ladies, ( I wish I'd known I
needed thread when I was at W\allyworld the night before) I proceeded to a pair of shorts. Now, I've made this pattern
before, actually twice last summer, and it fit fine and the shorts I made from it still fit fine, but for some reason,
these are a little tightish, and once again I could not get the zipper in to save my life. I ripped that one out at
least three times and it still does not look right to me when I hold them up from the waist band, though it looks just
fine when its laying on the ironing board. I'm hoping it just need the final press to make it look okay, otherwise I
don't know what I'll do with these things. On the quilty side I did manage to finish a pile of blocks for a guild
Ornelas this spring at Paducah. Of everything I did Tuesday and Wednesday, that turned out the best, although I swear as
I was sewing the binding to the back it grew to about a million feet long. It then shrunk its self back up to table
runner size. I'd also hoped to get all my BOMs finished and start a Halloween wallhanging, but I spent so many hours
ripping I never even got to look at them. My pile for show and tell at the end of the afternoon on Wednesday looked
pitifully small compared to the output of the others. Yes, I will post pics as soon as I get them taken. (Well, maybe
not the shorts--I think those might be too hideous) I'm hoping to get everything back down to the sewing room and
How do you print them onto the fabric? I was hoping for bigger squares maybe 6x6 or 8x8, then sash, figure how many I
need for the size and then add the border. I just don't know how to get the pictures onto the fabric. Martha joysjane
specific information!) right up to the part where you dump the fabric into the already agitating washing machine. I
have a front loader. How does one handle that? I know they couldn't be put in together. Could I shake them into a big
tub of water and stir it around for a while before putting them into the washing machine? [/quote:cc096b7677] Here's my
(current) method. Everyone has their own, and if it works for you, it's right! I do a QUICK rinse of the fabric. I'm
blessed with a deep sink next to my washer, but you could use a bucket if needed. The purpose of this is just to get
the excess dye out -- I'm talking a three second rinse. In a bucket I'd just dump it in, swish once, and wring it out.
I have a top loader, so I turn on the machine to fill while I'm doing the three second rinse, and start dumping in the
fabric as I'm rinsing. I can't see why that wouldn't work with a front loader -- just start the machine immediately
after you dump in the fabric. I do three washes in the machine. The first two are cold with no synthrapol -- they are
just doing all the hard work of rinsing for me. The last wash is hot with synthrapol (VERY little -- I don't measure,
but I guess I use about a teaspoon for a load of 10 yards). The only trick is to not let the wet fabric sit between
washes. I leave the laundry room door open and go play in my sewing room across the hall so I can hear the washer
stop. As long as I do this I never have backstaining, even when I do rainbow yardage. If you have soap or hard water
deposits in your machine, they may take on a little color but they never seem to affect future loads. At my house it
has the added benefit of annoying DH so he scrubs out the machine for me. *evil grin* -- Kathy A. (Woodland, CA)
I remember. Was that already a year ago? Because shortly after that, I cut out a stack of teddy bear parts to sew into
bears for the women's shelter and carefully placed the instruction sheet in the basket with the parts (easy pattern,
but works better if sewn in the right order). Finally got around to sewing them over the weekend. And now I cannot find
the pattern envelope anywhere. So annoying! Does this mean I have to clean? (Already cleaned the machine -the fluff
inside from the bear fabric was really vicious!) Roberta in D "Bonnie NJ" <maebe43@earthlink.net>
Whoops, I've just done a similar thing. I "lost" the lead to my Batik wax pot last year and it has taken me a
year to get around to finding a replacement! Just been reorganising/painting my room before it has to double up as
guest room and voila!I now have 2.The second is a longer lead though and is more useful.That's my story and I'm
I finished altering DDs clothes so that they will fit her (she's such a tiny little thing!) and didn't want to get
involved in a major project at 10pm, so I straightened my sewing room a bit!!! I can now see and walk on roughly half
my floor!! LOL. WIll be working on clearing some more this afternoon - Mother is due to arrive sometime today so I
need to clean the basics...like the bathrooms and kitchen - then straighten the rest of the house. Family room is
getting a MAJOR work-over...took out area rug and beat it until nothing flew out - it's now sitting in another room
until I clean the family room floors. DD wanted to wear her "big girl-go-too-school" underwear today, which
is another reason the area rug is up (much easier to wipe down hardwood then clean carpet). We've only had 1 accident
in the last 3 hours, so maybe today is the day we get rid of the pull-ups..who knows? ANyway, I'm just jazzed that I
can actually walk a bit in my sewing room, so I had to share :-) Larisa, now off to pay bills
Posted by Susan Laity Price on Fri Jun 23, 2006 2:16 PM    Post subject: Re: 4-Patch Stacked Posies--A Kaleidoscope Quilt
Your quilt is gorgeous! The four patch stack and whack idea has been around for several years. We used it set with
alternate plain blocks or hour glass blocks. The new setting given in the pattern you list is by far the better setting.
I have not seen the variation with the drunkard's path setting. I will have to try it. A local teacher has used the
same idea of setting as the pattern you list but instead of framing each square individually she sewed four squares
together and then framed them as a unit before adding the sashing and cornerstones. It is lovely. The four patch stack
and whack is great for anyone who has not tried the stack and whack technique. It is more forgiving than trying to sew
six or eight pieces together into a pinwheel. I have used the four patch with beginning quilters and their quilts all
turned out great. They all had the reaction of "I can't believe I made that beautiful thing!" I have used
some of the ugliest fabric for stack and whack and they always turn out great. Any fabric with a diffenent pattern can
be used. If the design is small just cut smaller squares. If there is a color in the fabric that you don't like, cut
extra blocks and don't use any blocks which have the unwanted fabric in this quilt. Set them aside for another quilt. I
personally don't like people or animal parts in my stack and whack blocks so avoid fabrics with those motifs. All of
this talk has made me want to do a stack and whack today. Wish I had a "play day" coming. I do need a wedding
gift with a nature them. Maybe a stack and whack using a green leafy print would work. Better get back to my 30's repro
quilt for the club in July. 30's repro fabric does not stack and whack! Susan Price On 21 Jun 2006 13:20:42
Similar to the Stack and Whack, but done with a four patch block. Much easier to make! And cool, I think. This is the
unquilted top and, yes, my sewing room floor needs vacuuming of major proportion. But if I clean, I don't have time to
sew! joan : -- Best Regards pat on the hill[/quote:75db2f71e1]
Wish I had. You can find it at hddesigns.net. I have discovered a variation, using a drunkard's path template to make
each 'square' into a pie-shaped wedge. Neato! joan KJ wrote: [quote:ff5535112a]That's really neat Joan! Did you make
that up yourself? It's really refreshing. Thanks for sharing. KJ "joan8904 in Bellevue Nebraska"
It's a printed pattern from hddesigns.net. (not JD, but HD.) It's not a difficult quilt to make, but the directions
are necessarily vague. Everything is based on the length of the repeat of the pattern in the fabric, not yardage or
inches. joan TerriLee in WA wrote: [quote:d2cccafa83]That's gorgeous. Where did you find the directions? (and we
don't care if the SR floor has threads & bits, the quilt is the important thing). ;-) -- TerriLee in WA (state)
I like that a lot. I've never had a burning desire to make a Stack and Whack, but this looks like something I might
try. Thanks for sharing! -- Louise in Iowa nieland4 at mchsi dot com http://community.webshots.com/user/louiseiniowa
