I use a paper shredder. Mix up shredded newspaper with elmers glue and make a mush like cookie dough for oatmeal
cookies. Liberally coat the inside of your mold with vaseline and then mash the paper mache into the mold. You just
have to build up a layer about a quarter inch thick. Let this dry for a long time (days). If you wait long enough,
you'll be able to pull out the microphone, no problem. I made an entire full size person this way. I don't think
you'll have a problem. You have to make the microphone in two halves of course and you can't have any 'keying.' You've
probably figured that out already though, if you've made the mold. Good luck, Tom Ned Sneed wrote:

[I've had best luck building papier mache over positive forms, rather than trying to get it to fill molds. Just build
your form in clay, then cover it with light plastic (dry-cleaner's drapery bags work well) as a moisture barrier and
release agent before applying the glue-soaked newspaper strips. When it's dry, section it to get it off the form, and
reassemble it hollow with more strips over the joins. I use white aliphatic resin glue (aka Elmer's) instead of wheat
paste - it dries easier, doesn't moulder, and the bugs and vermin don't like eating it as much.] Andrew Werby

How come you get to have all the fun!?!? There used to be a product made by Amaco called Melody Mache - I had some and
never used it. Anyway - it is called sculptamold now and it would seem to fit the bill, especially if you dont want a
learning curve on paper mache. Dick Blick carries it- http://www.dickblick.com/zz331/04/ Get some wet potters clay
(cheap and reusable) to shape the microphone, save money by backfilling with styrofoam or plastic, so the skin of your
sculpt is about 1 inch or so thick. Now this will dryout and crack if your ar not careful, so put a plastic overnight,
etc. The next stage is plaster, ideally strengthened with fiber, make a mulitpiece shell over the clay about 3/4 inch
thick - you have to avoid undercuts, otherwise when you pull the cast out, it will snag onto the cast. The plaster will
not stick to wet clay. The type of clay, fiber and plaster will probably depend on what the store you pick everything
up at carries - most ceramic supply shops will carry all three items. As far as casting, the blurb on sculptamold says
this is possible, so follow their directions. You might need a murphies oil soap as a release between the plaster and
mache. It would be easier to cast two halves, then patch them together before painting, etc. The other way is to build
on an armature, like they build pinatas, but this would take some time. If you are lucky, there may be a pinata shop
near to you who could make them for a lot less trouble. "Ned Sneed" <nervous_ned@meet-n-eat.com>

====================================== Legend's Scarecrow Let's do the scarecrow first. It's a brooch. It's French.
It's 18 karat gold. It's enameled in multi-colors. It's gorgeous. It's worth around $800.00. And if you want to know
more about scarecrows .... go to Tidbits Archives and find article #380 quaintly entitled "The Scarecrow" ...
and you will learn more than you ever thought you wanted to know about this little fellow. That said ... let us speak
of The Legend ... the owner of the above mentioned golden scarecrow. Is she a she or is he a he ... that is the
question. Don't want to give it all away just yet. So we will call this person Legend ... a rather quaint and apt
moniker ... dontcha think? Shall we proceed? Shall we play "Who is this person?" You can send me your guesses
... I'll give you the usual yup or nope ... and I'll post the answer next week. Legend was born in Virginia ... the
year was 1917. Alas ... Legend was orphaned while still quite young and moved to New York and was raised by an aunt.
The year is 1934. Someone dares Legend to enter an amateur talent contest at the Apollo theater. Legend is going to do a
dance. But when Legend gets on stage ... disaster hits ... and Legend is frozen in place. The skies could fall ... the
earth could split ... the very devil himself could reach up and grab Legend's ankle ... no way was that dance going to
be performed. But the M.C. insists. Do something. Anything. And so Legend opens a mouth wide and begins to sing Connee
Boswell's song: The Object Of My Affection. Legend is a hit. Legend carries the day at the Apollo. Legend wins first
prize. And the legend of Legend begins. Legend soon comes to the attention of swing bandleader Chick Webb who ... after
some reluctance hires Legend. During the first performance ... Legend wins over the audience. Three years pass by and
Legend suddenly gives Chick Webb his first hit ... born of a nursery rhyme created to cheer the bandleader up during his
stay in a hospital. The song: "A Tisket, A Tasket." When Chick dies ... Legend becomes leader of the band.
And so it continues. Legend records the Songbook Albums ... each album devoted to a major American songwriter the likes
of which include Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, and Ira Gershwin who at one point said he truly didn't know
how good his songs were till he heard Legend sing them. By now ... Legend is a legend and is considered one of the most
talented artists of the 20th century. Legend's awards are too numerous to mention ... except for the Society of Singers
Lifetime Achievement Award which was subsequently named --as an honor--after Legend. Legend died in 1996 at 78 years of
age ... and there is no one out there who breathes our carbon based atmosphere who has not heard of this singer. As to
the golden scarecrow ... a part of Legend's jewelry collection .... it is a definite worth-a-look to see. Who woulda
thunk it. From a scarecrow to some jewelry to a Legend. Life is marvelous ... is it not? Anyone out there care to take a
guess as to Legend's identity? For those of you who are new to this thing called Tidbits...may I direct you to my home
page at www.tyler-adam.com where you will scroll down the left side menu till you get to the area that says Current
Tidbits ... and then click on it in order to view Legend's French Brooch Scarecrow in 18 karat enameled gold. And
there ya have it. That's it for this week folks. Catch you all next week. Benjamin Mark All issues of Tidbits are

she takes her foot off of it and lets it "rest" for a minute then it will work again. Only to have it happen

Many Prayers for your Grandmother. Grandma's are such a blessing in a person's life. I have had reason to ponder this
in the last couple of years Now is the time to let grandma know what kind of a difference she made to your life. My
grandma was never too crazy about kids. I do remember though that she made me my first quilt. It had lavender squares
with sunbonnet sue on alternating squares, similar to the one I made my grandaughter. She made it on her singer that
she bought in the early 50s. She always bragged that she had a lifetime guarantee on that sewing machine. I can
remember at about age 5 getting on the city bus with grandma and riding all the way to downtown Portland and going to
Newberries. It was a huge (or it seemed to me) five and dime. I will never forget that day. I even had some of my own
money, for maybe the first time. I still collect teapots, she gave me my first. I wish I could tell my grandma all of
this, but she does not remember me now. It would make a difference to me to know my grandkids remember what I did for
them or how what I have done might have shaped them a little differently. Just a thought. -- Vikki in WA State

Taria, Thanks for the offer, luckily the Designer II that I own has a button to sew without having to use the foot.
I just feel like I am in more control with the foot. I have been using the button for now and so far have been

I don't remember what model my old singer was, but bobbin tension was the reason I replaced it (received it as a gift
in '72). When I took it in for servicing, I was told the repairs would be more than the value of the machine. The
machine went. That was in '95. In that time I sewed everything from hemmed diapers to dress slacks. -- Mary

I have 4 machines, A 1902 Singer treadle and the 1970's Singer never get used. I keep the 70's singer for an emergency
but I will likely never use it again, maybe to teach my daughter to sew when she is old enough. Then I have a Babylock
esante, I use it for most of my quilting and embroidery, the majority of its use is for quilting though. I also have an
Omega that I bought from wal mart (same as euro pro) I use it for most of my piecing to elminate the unnecessary wear
and tear on my babylock, after all you don't usually need a very fancy machine for piecing. If you want to count my
serger too, that gets used occasionally, mostly for clothing though which I don't do nearly as much as quilting.

Posted by JPgirl on Sun Sep 17, 2006 4:12 PM Post subject: Re: OT: sort of....I want to hear about sewing machines
Personally I would keep the machine you have now. I had an old singer a few years ago and I used that for all of my
sewing, I then wanted and embroidery machine so I found a used Babylock esante and bought it. I figured I would still
use the old singer for regular sewing and use the Babylock for the stuff that had to be REALLY good and for the
embroidery. After I tried out the babylock for regular sewing I never touched the singer again. I did however have the
money at the time to buy the converter/card and the digitizing software so I can embroider pretty much anything I want.
After I got back into quilting very heavily I bought a cheap simple Omega machine from Wal-mart to do all my peicing on.
Being a stay at home mom now and not having the money I did before to replace my babylock and knowing that I didn't need
a fancy machine just to peice I decided to invest the small amount of money it cost me for the cheap machine to save
some wear and tear on my 'good' machine. I peice my tops, and do most regular sewing on my cheap Omega ( I actually
like it better than the babylock for peicing, other than it being a bit louder) and I do all my embroidery and all my
quilting (especially free motion) on the babylock. So in conclusion, keep the fancy machine and use the money you would
have used buying another machine to buy a cheap simple second machine or a converter/card combo for the machine you have
now. At the very least if you can't afford the digitizing software on top of that you can download free designs off the
net and at least have some usability there.

Howdy! It was nice to meet you, Barbara. Y'all were still laughing when Nona dragged me to see The Quilts. (Yes, Frank,
we saw the quilts first thing after the RCTQ lunch meet-up. <g>) Nona, not a quilter at that point, fell in
love w/ the first quilts she saw, some very bright, contemporary quilts. When we got around to the front of the
show/entry where the Winners were on display, many of them w/ the quilters/artists standing beside their award-winning
quilts, talking to the public just like regular people!, Nona thought she'd made it to heaven. (Nona is my s-i-l, a
rock&roll singer who has been a quilt-appreciator up 'til now, agreed to go to Houston with me-- maybe telling her
"we'll stay at the Hilton next door" helped sell the idea. <g>) One of the best parts is the way
many of the winning quilts were made by "new to us" quilters, not the same names we see at all the big shows
and on the covers of magazines over & over. New names in the winner's circle, quilters who were just delighted at
the response and attention they received from the rest of us. ;-) Btw, it was the batiks *sigh* that finally got to
Nona. She is wild about the batiks. Each vendor we passed she had to fondle the batik fabric. *sigh* Such a chore to
keep her company (egg her on <g>). Finally I made her choose 3 fqs, assuring her that w/ the addition of some of
my stash (she IS my husband's sister, I can share ...I think) we can put together a lovely..well, okay, bitchin'! table
runner, I do the quilting, she does the embellishing. Smart vendor, she was selling little packages of coordinating
beads & sequins to go w/ those batiks. ooooo-ha-ha-ha-ha! Hooked another one! More dolls:

Ha! Ha! So the machine would smell like a freshly washed baby for awhile! Too funny. Since baby oil is just mineral
oil with fragrance added, I think I'd opt for using plain unscented mineral oil for machine oil instead. I can see how
either one would work in a sewing machine oil crisis though. I think Larisa is just using the 3 in 1 to wet the q-tip
swab so tiny threads will adhere to the swab better. I don't think she is using it for actually oiling her machine.

just a quick update to let you know that my WW progress is coming along nicely... DH and I have been following the
program now for nearly 6 weeks and I have lost 8.8kgs and DH has lost 8.9kgs. We are absolutely over-the-moon with our
achievements, and while we still have a long way to go, it's very encouraging to know that we have the support of not
only each other, but our friends and family as well. I've had no time for scrapping lately, and I never did get that
letter/desk organiser altered (hit a few problems with adhesives - I'll try again another time). Last night DH took me
to see one of my favourite singers, and I had a photo taken with her and she gave me a big hug too.... I'll certainly be
scrapping a couple of pages on her..... I have her autograph now on all of her albums and a songbook with a personal
note from her on the front cover..... VERY Exciting. I hope you are all well, I will check in from time to time. Much
love, Cec...xxx[/quote:2628c745c0]

Happy Birthday, Dave! Hope you're home & doing something to treat yourself (even if that means doing nothing &
taking it easy). May the coming year be your best year yet! Alicia <--- wondering if on your next trip out this
way you'd take the opera singer down the hall who hasn't figured out she has neighbors that can hear her thru closed
doors & windows several units away, & drop her off in the middle of a prairie somewhere

wont change anything. I still own you. You don't even own a functionning brain. Not to mention anyone WITH a brain Keep
dreaming. Boy, you certainly told me huh! Laugh laugh laugh Gunner Do tell, got that 80% Democratic voting history
you claimed existed or no? No? I figured as much. Posted cites you ignored. Primarily because they said the opposite of
what you claimed. Got the alleged perjury by Bill Clinton you claimed existed yet or no? No? I figured as much. Posted
cites you ignored I didn't ignore them. They simply didn't state what was requested. Sure, a lot of Neocon sites will
claim he committed perjury, but they never give the question as asked and his actual answer, because he never did commit
perjury. Oh, then let's solve that problem From the Transcripts: Q. Did you have an extramarital sexual affair with
Monica Lewinsky? A. No. Q. If she told someone that she had a sexual affair with you beginning in November of 1995,
would that be a lie? A. It's certainly not the truth. It would not be the truth. Q. I think I used the term
"sexual affair." And so the record is completely clear, have you ever had sexual relations with Monica
Lewinsky, as that term is defined in Deposition Exhibit 1, as modified by the Court. MR. BENNETT: I object because I
don't know that he can remember. JUDGE WRIGHT: Well, it's real short. He can - I will permit the question and you may
show the witness definition number one. And here is the part that ALL your neocon pieces of shit intentionally leave
out--the definition of "sexual relations" he was given. And I quote: ""For the purposes of this
deposition, a person [the deponent, in this case, Clinton] engages in sexual relations when the person [Clinton]
knowingly engages in or causes: 1. Contact with the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of any
person [that is, any other person, in this case, Monica Lewinsky] with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire
of any person [Lewinsky]; Contact means intentional touching, either directly or through clothing." See:
http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-clintonjonesperjury.html http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=470645
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/08/17/time/clinton.html And therein lies the problem: Bill Clinton did not touch
her genitals, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh or buttocks. Me made no attempts to sexually arouse or gratify her. He
got a hummer. ROFL....so she had sex with him.....but he didn't have sex with her. No, according to the definition Bill
Clinton was instructed to use, there were no "sexual relations". LOL!!! Just goes to show to what extremes
people will go to excuse Mr. Clinton's perjury. Dude, the extreme I go to are if someone ask if your fist-fucked some
chick, and all you did was lay back while she blew you, your answer, 100% honest, is "no". Do you honestly
think that if Clinton came down stairs and found Chelsea or Hillary on the sofa face down on Larry the Cable Guy, that
he would declare that they were not having sex? ;) Ahh yes, the argument Limbaugh and his type use--it doesn't matter
what he was actually asked, because if the situation were different then the answer would be different. Normally this is
done when someone is left trying--in vain--to salvage the 'perjury' argument. I'm not trying to salvage
anything.......just stating a fact. [/quote:1fab8fd2b2] Well, the fact is that we are dealing with an incident(s)
between Clinton and Lewinsky, and the exact question he was asked. [quote:1fab8fd2b2] Well, I am only dealing with the
question asked, and the 100% honest answer given. If you specifically ask your daughter's boyfriend if he ever had
sexual intercourse with your teenage daughter, and al he ever did was be participant #6 in a line of guys your daughter
blows at some party, he can, with all honesty, answer "no". He may answer "no" but it wouldn't be
honestly. [/quote:1fab8fd2b2] Are you proffering the argument that a person can answer truthfully and dishonestly at the
same time? [quote:1fab8fd2b2] He was asked if he had ever gotten his jollies with Monica, he was speciaifcally--and at
great length--asked if he had ever touched her for the purpose of pleasuring her. And your assumption is that he just
stood there (or sat there) let her unzip his pants, haul it out and whale away on it and he never touched her? LOL!!!
[/quote:1fab8fd2b2] The assumption is on your part that he did touch her, while there is no evidence presented by anyone
to support your speculation. Besides, it is a new world, you can ask younger chicks for blowjobs without foreplay and
stand a decent chance of getting one just from flirting. Now, factor in the president of the US, and some plump WH
intern into the mix, and you have something akin to a 18 year-old groupie and the lead singer of Guns and Roses... All
you gotta do is ask, because they already want to. But, all of that is the sheerest of speculation--all we know is he
was asked if he groped her, and all we know is her got a hummer, and a hummer don't qualify as groping her.
[quote:1fab8fd2b2] Now, I do acknowledge that he lied to the American people when he said he didn't have 'sexual
relations with the woman' because we didn't narrow the term "sexual relations" like the Jones lawyers did.
But, lying to us about a fling on the side is the least harmful lie we have gotten from a President, and sure as hell
didn't lead to a fiasco war we are currently losing. Who's claiming it was the most harmful lie or led to a war. You
seem to be stretching or falling in love with a strawman. [/quote:1fab8fd2b2] No, I am in love with the fact they
defined sexual relations as him having groped her for her benefit, and all we know is that she sucked his dick.
------------------------------------------------------------------ "Of course the people don't want war. But after
all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people
along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no
voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them
they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater
danger." -- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
